Germany The Good, The Bad & The Ugly (4K Remaster) - Il Buono, Il Brutto, Il Cattivo

On 06th June 2014 there will be a re-issue of The Good, The Bad & The Ugly in Germany.

As opposite to the UK and French release, it will be in an amaray and not in a steelbook. The upper picture is the cover motif. Also, the cover will be reversible (on the inside it will contain the original theatrical poster).

Also, most importantly: the film will contain a different version of the German dub as opposed to the previous SE DVD / BluRay edition. The new dub by MGM was an 5.1 upmix and contained changed gunshot sounds as well as rather badly redubbed scenes from the Italian version. Also, the first edition of the film had the German soundtrack with a wrong pitch, being actually 4% lower than the English audio (a common problem with early MGM titles).

There was a better 1990s dub created by KirchMedia for the longer Italian cut of the movie. It had a far superior acting quality for the extended scenes compared to the latter MGM dub made for the DVD. Also, being in mono, it contains original gunshot sounds. It lacks of course the Il Grotto scene (which is absent from the Italian theatrical version).

Oh yeah, the bits from the original US theatrical version are identical in both dubs - however, MGM redubbed some of the lines for continuity reasons for their DVD dub.

After the Special Edition DVD by MGM was released, German TV stations ARD / ZDF aired the MGM extended cut several times, with the better 1990s dub with the Il Grotto sequence taken from the newer MGM dub. This is the version which is to be included on the new 2014 BluRay.

Other tech specs:

Audio:

German: DTS-HD-Master Audio 1.0 Mono
English: Englisch DTS-HD-Master Audio 5.1, Dolby Digital1.0 Mono
French: DTS 5.1
etc.

Subtitles:
Englisch for Hard of Hearing, French, German etc.
