Default The Sound of Music

Is everyone hearing this crappy audio? There's a layer of distortion/white noise.

It did. But it sounds that way live on stage to me.

Oh dear God that was painful to watch.

It had the potential to be at the very least passable, but Carrie Underwood's acting was just horrible. I've seen less wooden acting in high school productions. They clearly cast her as a recognizable name and a way to market the show, but in the end, she was, by FAR, the worst thing about it.

It's a shame too, because this probably killed the chances for potential future tv adaptations of other musicals. As someone who does not have the funds or proximity to see many live shows, I welcome and anticipate film and tv versions.

The focus and such is just the perils of live TV. And yes, the sound was terrible. I get that it's live, but can't they do something about that?

I feel bad for Carrie but I guess there's a reason even with her looks she's a singer and not an actress. She sure got a lot of negative "You're not Julie" feedback on the Internet.

Even if the quality wasn't good the ratings could make more adaptations more likely:

Quote:
On NBC, The Sound of Music Live! earned a 4.6 adults 18-49 rating. This marks NBC’s best Thursday (excluding sports) since the ER finale on April 2, 2009.
What makes this even more impressive is that it's first half-hour was going against a new episode of The Big Bang Theory (which also had a 4.6 demo but fewer total viewers), Grey's Anatomy, Scandal, and an NFL game (albeit one with two terrible teams).

Anne Hathaway would have been perfect for the role. Watched this for like 10 minutes and changed the channel.

Carrie's voice was great, her acting not as great, but I still give her props for doing it!

Definitely not true. In the 80s/90s NBC routinely got at least triple the 18-49 rating and millions more viewers from shows like Cheers, Friends, Seinfeld, ER, and the Cosby Show. For example, season seven of Friends, which was the show's lowest-rated season, still averaged a 14.2 rating and 22.1 million viewers per new episode. Those ratings are unheard of in today's TV atmosphere (excluding big sporting events) as there's so much more competition as well as fewer people watching TV overall.

I think he only half heard it. the actual statistic is that it is NBC's highest rated non-sports program on a Thursday since the Frasier finale.

After a second watch I feel like Carrie's acting was above average, although not the best compared to the others. I also feel the guy that played Georg was a worse actor and singer!
