Lightbulb widescreen versus full screen

Has anyone ever wondered why some movies are double-sided (one side widescreen and the other side full screen) and other titles are one sided but when you hit "Play" on the main menu if asks which way you want to view the movie? I'm actually starting to hate the double sided disc because that means you just have to be even more careful because the chance of scratching that type of disc increased. All movie companies should just use one side of the disc and let the viewer have the option when they hit "Play." What does everyone else think on that idea?

Full screen is an abomination and should be made illegal.

Agreed. You lose at least 40% of the picture on a full screen DVD!

Uh I just have 1 dvd that is double sided, that is out of over 500 dvd, not an issue too me.

The flip discs are mostly found as rentel discs & there is always the zoom button, too.

You've got a 4:3 tv right?

I think those who consistently buy the full screen version of movies are probably the same folks who'd buy, you know, that other Hi Def format. Part of the whole experience is good enough for them. More, really, than they feel they deserve.

Don't get me wrong, I hate full screen for pretty much the same reason, loss of picture. I have a widescreen tv and I like widescreen better anyway, which is why i got that type of tv. Just for the record, the thread was about having onr side of the disc used versus both sides but I wanted to add the wide/full screen in the thread for it to make sense.

2-sided discs=bad IMO. I do like that some Disney DVD's like Nemo had the Full and Wide on separate discs. That way if the REAL version go damaged you at least had the Full screen version ass back up for free.

Well as far as I remember I like to see more of a movie even if that meant to fill the screen in my 16:9 plasma that does that nicely. So I can say that I prefer movies in the 1:85:1 wich is "full screen" for these kind of tvs.

Well thank god you don't see full screen movies as much as you used to in new releases.

I forgot which movie it was but I rented one (DVD) from Blockbuster didn't noticed that it was fullscreen slapped it on the Blu machine and BAM it was a square.

I wanted to kill, damn I was mad that night

You know whats sad? I had a person come to my store yesterday and said they just bought the new 50" LCD HDTV of course widescreen, but he INSISTED on getting a full screen version of the movie because hates wide screen movies. I literally wanted to slap him.
