It's the first ever release of the film since the days of VHS, and Paramount titles that have come out in Oz recently bode well for a US release a few months later, maybe it will finally be licensed for BD here.

Be careful if you buy this title from Amazon and ONLY buy the one I linked, Amazon has a bunch of foreign bootlegs that all use the original keyart too, with just slightly different wording and ratings logos.

Ang Lee's Pushing Hands has been released in Germany as part of a boxset and in Taiwan both individually and as part of a boxset.

The German release only has German subs, and the Taiwanese release only has English subs for the entire movie, no subs for only the Chinese-language scenes.

I knew about the Pushing Hands releases, but decided to include it since none of them are close to ideal or, in the case of the Taiwan set, seriously hard to come by. Up to the OP, I suppose.

Sydney Pollack's Sabrina is only available from Germany, and that disc only has the German dub, not the original English audio, so it's as good as unreleased.

I bought the disc, used, for like $5 at the late, great Amoeba. Once I got home I realized why the original buyer sold it, haha. Useless coaster.

It looks like it uses the same old DVD-era transfer too.

I was there last summer and fell in love with it. A quick Google search says they're only moving locations (I hope)?

The owner of the building in Los Angeles decided that they wanted to raze it and put up some monstrosity. Amoeba were always planning on a new location (a few blocks up and over) but once the pandemic hit, they were forced to close the previous location for good with all of their efforts going towards movie product and finishing off the new space.

They have a go fund me to help them cover the insurance for the 100 + people who work there. If you are a fan, I’d suggest also ordering from their online store. I’m truly hoping they can survive this.

You beat me to Ken Russell but there are two Blu Ray releases of The Rainbow. One from Spain (I cannot comment on this one) and one from Italy. The Italian Blu Ray is gorgeous and does the film full justice. Its widescreen and a beautiful transfer that is so superior in every way to the English cropped 4x3 DVD. It can also be watched in English without Italian subtitles. I highly recommend the disc for any fans of the film.
