Default Why are people so committed to a few brands?

It amazes me that many members here (and elsewhere on other forums) are so committed to their brand of choice that they will do whatever they can to either discount the value of another choice and push a personal opinion to extremes.

I see it all the time and it makes me question how they hold such a limited view. In the vast majority of cases they haven't even heard the other component they are doubting or claiming is inferior. Specs are touted as proof and second-hand opinion is claimed as fact.

I can certainly understand that if one makes an investment that they would want their purchase to be viewed as a good decision. Who wouldn't? And that's fair game and a basic human need. I get that as many do. But why the need to push a choice? That's the part I could never understand.

I have been into audio for a long time and have owned equipment from a wide spectrum of manufacturers including McIntosh (several times), Pioneer, Kenwood, Optonica (points to those who remember the manfuacturer), Teac, Tascam, Shure, Grado, Realistic (yes, in my early days), Sansui, Celestion, BIC Venturi, Klipsch, PS Audio, Harman-Kardon, Akai, Genesis, Totem, SpeakerLab, AudioQuest, Monster, Nordost, Kimber, and yes...Bose as well (301's) and the list goes on.

Never once have I claimed that any one of them was the ultimate choice, although they were right for me at the time. Hopefully there will be new manufacturer components to grace my system as I move on.

I really dislike limiting my options.
