United Kingdom Insurgent (2D/3D)

Out today 3D and 2D version available. I believe the 2D is £12.99 in HMV and the 3D £15.99. Will be a blind buy for me just for the 3D.

Enjoyed the first. This looks as good but I'm wary of the middle film in a trilogy. They always seems to have an incomplete ending, waiting for the outcome in the next. Works well for tv, waiting a week but a film were you can wait for maybe 1-2 yrs. not so sure.
I may wait for it to drop to bargain bin and then it'll be a few months wait for the final instalment. If this has a stand alone feel to it I might bite sooner.

At least this is a shorter movie than the first which i personally felt was too long and needed tightening up.

Mmmm. Afraid I disagree, happy with the first one and if this is shorter then it sounds more like a middle film filler.

£6-£7 and I'll bite, I'll no doubt be waiting just before the third is released.

I don't feel like any of these YA adaptations need to be over two hours personally, especially as I found Divergent mostly quite dull. Each to their own though.

I do disagree at the suggestion that a shorter movie is automatically a lesser one just because of length.

Maybe I came across wrong, I don't in general think a shorter film is inferior. Just that middle of a confirmed trilogy film is normally a branch with a non ending. If it's shorter, I'm just guessing less story, involvement which equals a definite filler between beginning and end.

Might be a great film and have plenty of story. I enjoyed HG mocking Jay part 1 and Harry Potter last one part 1, but both left an empty incomplete feeling at the ending. Think this will be the same

This is a bit lol as we're both discussing a movie neither of us have seen trying to talk about it without seeing it!

I'll report back later on the movie, hopefully it'll be good and at least a solid continuation of the first which did have its moments.

Yeah true, do it all the time. Let me know how it goes. I'm sure I'll still have an opinion without seeing it

I'm just going to re-post what i posted in the 3D thread, i enjoyed the movie more than Divergent:

OK all in all not a bad movie, i vastly preferred it to the first and i think a lot of this has to do with the change in director. neil Burger's direction in the first was pretty sluggish but Robert Schwentke is much more dynamic and keeps everything clipping along nicely along with injecting plenty of style into the proceedings.

Of course Schwentke has done another 3D movie, RIPD. The 3D isn't as effective as it was in RIPD but then there were many more CG heavy sequences and FX that took full advantage of 3D. As far as a fairly late in the day conversion goes i was actually impressed with the 3D in Insurgent. It is definitely a solid enough presentation all round, sure there are a few weaker moments of 3D but i put that more down to the sets used during these weaker moments, ie not much chance to extend the depth in some of the more claustrophobic scenes. Overall the 3D is pretty medium throughout with some shots going to upper medium 3D and some moments dropping to lower medium. The CG heavy sequences fair the best or anything set outside really as the vast landscapes look great in 3D along with the ruined Chicago. The simulation scenes took advantage of the 3D nicely especially as there was so much CG work here.

I have seen a lot of people criticise the 3D in Insurgent saying it's non existent etc. this is not true, i's a decent conversion and better IMO than say Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters. I really hope they do the next 1 or 2 in 3D, not sure if they're still chopping the last movie in 2 as this one made less than the first movie. It would be a shame for them to drop the 3D.

On a whole i definitely recommend the 3D for a solid medium presentation. The movie kept me entertained despite so me of the horrible dialogue and some of the questionable story points. There's plenty of action and the pacing is so much better than the first movie, it's over 20 minutes shorter too which helps. As the 3D is so reasonably priced IMO it's a no brainer, i'm very glad i picked it up.

BTW there are no pop outs to speak off, it's all about the depth in this conversion.

Could you possibly tell me where you got that digibook? It's really nice, I was thinking of getting it but I can't find it anywhere.

I thought about the digibook but I am correct it's 2D only which is a silly decision by eOne.

The spines on the Divergent and Insurgent 3D amaray releases line up perfectly, thankfully! Anybody worried about that can rest easy!

Disappointed with the steels available for this. Picked up the 3D amaray for now in the hope that there's a better steel down the line. Digis looks nice though

Just picked up the digibook in CeX for a tenner.
Can someone help me figure out where this digibook is from!? Was it an Amazon, HMV or Zavvi exclusive?
