Default Nothing But Trouble (1991)

Much reviled, but very fun (if you're in the right mood) surreal, disturbing and bizarre. And it has John Candy, Dan Aykroyd, Chevy Chase, Demi Moore, and some amusing cameos. I'm surprised it doesn't have more of a cult following.

So, where's the blu-ray? Would love to see a proper release done by Shout or Arrow!

It with Warner... they won't deal with Shout and Warner release themselves. Love to see this on Blu-ray and come on, Warner!

Love this movie and it'd be awesome to have on blu considering the old P&S dvd is such a bad and dated transfer.

I saw this on TV as a kid back in the 90s and haven’t seen it since or even remembered it until recently (weird how that works, right?). Your description of the film is spot on! I’d love to catch this one again on Blu-ray.

This definitely deserves a release despite it's much-maligned reputation!

This is one of the '90s weirdest and underrated gems.
I too love it, and have been seeking a fancy blu-ray release for years.
Had the same thought as NonSequiturL and asked Scream/Shout about a potential release.
Sadly, as Starman22 already mentioned, Warner doesn't work with them.

So, it's completely in the hands of Warner Archive Collection, and they won't respond to my nagging tweets or facebook posts.
Maybe I should start pestering Dan Aykroyd's social media accounts about it

Warner can deal with Scream / Shout Factory a few titles (It's Alive trilogy, Creepshow, 4 of Critters, Of Unknown Origin, Curse of the Cat People and more) and it can be come to Scream / Shout Factory someday and so wait and see

"Nothing But Trouble" is really crazy fun, however, I think Aykroyd should collaborate with Warner and release the original R-Rated cut of the film, along with changing it back to its original title, "Valkenvania."

The movie was even darker and bloodier, which was the point in the first place: to make a weird dark comedy with a "Texas Chainsaw" vibe.

Re-editing and re-titling the film was a huge mistake.

I watched this again recently for the first time since the mid-90s and have to admit I loved every second of it. I totally get why some people don't like it, but I also get what Aykroyd was going for and think it's a crazy, weird, fun time if that's your thing. I would definitely buy this on Blu-ray and it would be great if Aykroyd's original R-rated cut could be restored and included as well.

I thought this was finally going to be some sort of announcement! Nothing but trouble comes from these wish list threads...
[Show spoiler]

But I hope this eventually happens! I would love some present day Aykroyd thoughts on this project as well.

It's insane I never heard about this.
Yes, this is absolutely imperative.
We need to bombard Warner Archive Collection to make this happen.

Renaming it "Valkenvania" at this point might be pushing it.
But, then again, it doesn't seem like the existing movie has much name recognition anyway.. so maybe?

But an unrated director's cut is a must.

Sure was. I've always loved how disturbing it was.
But, I can see even its existing form being "too much" for most people.
So, if you're gonna go weird and dark, for god's sake: go all in.

This is my most wanted release.

Prime Demi Moore.
Chase, Aykroyd and Candy (as a female, no less).
Digital Underground (feat. Tupac & Humpty)
Bobo and L'il Debbull
Outstanding cameos
The only movie directed by Aykroyd
The perfect dark and dreary set

I love this movie. Is a lot of it nostalgia?... probably... but this is a really unique comedy featuring a great cast (especially at the time) and serves as an outstanding time capsule for the late '80s and early '90s.

If movies like 'The Wizard' (which I'm a fan of) can get "Collector's Edition" releases, it's an absolute shame that this one can't get an HD release of any sort. Hell, even the DVD release is a poor 1.33:1 scan.

Is there really a supposed director's cut shelved somewhere? Always loved this movie and it's one that you could probably show to 20 random people and 19 of them might hate it. It's very unique as someone else mentioned.

It was originally titled "Valkenvania," and Warner recut the film in December 1990 to snag a PG-13 rating, stating it was way too bloody and violent and they retitled it "Nothing But Trouble"...some sources say that title fit the bill of a Chase/Aykroyd/Candy comedy...taking much of the horror element out.

The studio screwed the pooch here...but I still think it's a fun film.

But now that the film has nearly 20 years of cult status, and a slew of fans...people want to see the R-rated "Valkenvania" cut.

They did this for "Little Shop of Horrors"...I can easily see this happening.

Literally everything I know about the fate of this movie came from this thread. Mostly all from unclejay73 and the video Mikezilla3k posted.

I love your optimism. Kind of feel like LSoH had way more love (since I was a kid, at least) to receive that amazing special edition. To this day, that alternate ending is still one of my all-time-favorite special edition releases.

Sadly, Nothing But Trouble usually only seems to be brought up when people are talking shit about it. I really wish it had some newly discovered respect when it hit streaming, but if it did, I certainly haven't noticed.

It almost seems like this could be a chance to attract people for the first time releasing it (both on streaming and blu-ray) as virtually a wholly original re-titled release? Just wish there was some way to get it on the radar of someone at Warner Bros. I've discovered dozens of movies from the '80s and '90s that I missed as a kid. There has got to be a huge community of fans who love schlocky gross-out horror from that time period who wrote this off as a just a goofy comedy. Why not put a little effort into resurrecting something that sort of already exists? (perhaps I'm being too naive that the condition of the original cut is even workable this many years later).

I'd never heard of any kind of alternate cut and that actually sounds pretty fascinating. Love the movie as it is, but if an R-rated draft was somehow released I'd love to see it. It's such a weird, bizarre, and imaginative film. Always wanted to hear Dan and his brother talk about this movie as well.

[Show spoiler]

That's about the only promo thing I've found and there's very little talked about the movie. Again, it kind of highlights what I mentioned in another thread that Chevy was always such a great guest on these shows but never had even a fraction of that confidence as a host.
