Is there a reason why this classic hasn't had a blu-ray release?

Probably just laziness on Warner Bros part.

There was a grey-area release in Spain though:


However I think it will probably get a release soon. (I mean Deadly Friend, another cult film from Warner Bros was just announced a few days ago so there's hope)

There was talk of a Criterion release as well. This is likely held up with either Warner or Criterion or both. The Spain BD is decent.

I’ve never understood the holdup with this movie. It’s a Scorsese movie! It should have been released ages ago.

It's my favorite Scorsese movie and I watch the DVD at least twice a year. We'll get a Blu-ray eventually but the fact it's not already out is a bit weird.
