What does it mean to say a speaker is power hungry?

I have a Sony STR-DH810. Polk CS 2 Series II Center and TSI300 fronts. Is there a point in the volume where speakers "come alive"? I have to turn my system up to 40 (which on this AVR seems a little high; I realize numbers are different on different AVRs). I have my center at +4.0. I just feel like the center isn't loud enough. My fronts are .0. The source is HD/Dolby Digital.

Should I have the CS10/20 since that goes with the TSI series?

Do I need something more powerful to power everything? Is this what is mean by "power hungry"? I don't want to blow up my speakers. Maybe I'm going deaf?

Power hungry means lower sensitivity speakers. Basically needs more power to hit the db levels of higher sensitivity drivers..

For your center...use an SPL meter to level match the speakers. You're center may need a bit of boosting at its current balance

How is your center placed. Can you take a pic of the room for us. That should keep up fine with your fronts
