Default What Frame Rate Are 3D Blu-rays Dislayed at on Samsung Plasmas?

Hi Folks,

I have a PN51D8000 and always wondered this. I remember reading a thread here that said no consumer grade TV's displayed 3D at the proper cadence of 24fps. I have always argued that is must be 24p because, to my eye, 3D is just a smooth as 2D. I heard they use frame interpolation (60fps to each eye), but wouldn't that introduce judder? There is no frame interpolation setting for 2D so it seems odd that this would be in place for 3D? Or is their no judder because the refresh rate is 120Hz which is divisible by 24, but split in half? It's odd to me that this information isn't posted anywhere.

In my personal opinion I think it's 48Hz to each eye (since the TV uses 96Hz for 2D 24p playback), but I've always heard 48Hz flickers too much and people don't like it. 3D is smooth as butter and flicker free on this TV though. Some movies are better than others...Pacific Rim is perfection while The Hobbit can be a bit hard to follow when the camera is panning around all over the place, but that's due to the limitations of 24fps.

Thanks!

Frame packed 3-D Blu-ray discs become native 48fps when the processor in the Samsung plasmas unpacks the Blu-ray. Then 100% of Samsung plasma displays add 3:2 pulldown to the left eye 24Hz and right eye 24Hz source material. All Samsung plasmas display 3-D Blu-ray discs at 120Hz (60Hz for each eye). The ideal plasma display should display Blu-ray 3-D movies at 144Hz (72HZ for each eye) just like the professional single light source movie projectors.

Currently there is no flat panel display on the market that does 144Hz in 3-D mode except for a few desktop computer monitors, only some high-end 3-D consumer projectors offer a 144Hz mode for 3-D Blu-ray movies.

Click the following link for a diagram on how the ideal consumer 3-D Front Projector or 3-D display should work when unpacking the frame packed 1920 X 2205 image.
