Question I just chose Blu-ray - now what can I do?

I've posted to this forum before when I was deciding between Blu-ray and HD DVD for Christmas buying.

I used discussions from this list as well as the sales performace of Blu-ray (see eproductwars.com as well as the available titles themselves (Blu-ray discs vs. HD DVD.

After careful review, I finally put down a chunk of money and "bet" on Blu-ray. Fortunately, the stats all point in Blu-ray's favor. Now I'm in a situation where I'm no longer a neutral party and I really want Bu-ray to win, if simply to preserve my investment.

So, should I just relax and assume Blu-ray is going to win? Or is there any minor role I can play in advocating Blu-ray (besides talking to friends/family, etc.)?

Thanks.

J

Here's a couple of suggestions...

"You know, in certain older civilized cultures, when men failed as entirely as you have, they would throw themselves on their swords." - from the movie Serenity.

Failing that, just relax and enjoy your new purchase(s).

Get out there and buy movies, that's the best way to support your choice. Not only that, but movies are the reason you got into this anyways. So just use your Blu-Ray player as you would and you'll be helping the cause.

Of course it doesn't hurt to tell people about it and try to help them along in their decision. Inform them about Blu-Ray and all it's advantages. The more people supporting the format the better.

Invite friends and family over for a movie night to see how great it is. Word of mouth is usually the best tactic we can employ.

Thank you for going Blu!

JR.com, DeepDiscount and Fry's have big sales this week on blu-ray. And some of those movies are top rated as well.

Thank you for having enough forethought and common sense to realize that blu-ray has more movies (including exclusive to blu-ray) than the other format. The shelves in the stores does not lie, more blu-ray movies than the other format.

Oh my gosh, joe, what perfect timing. Now you can go to the Amazon BOGO and buy your collection at 50% off. Seriously, I just ordered 10 titles and paid about $12/each. Them are DVD prices I tell ya!

I've shown my Blu-ray player and home theater system to a bunch of friends and family and they all seem to be astonished. Word of mouth is very helpful!

Aside from that, after you show them how great Blu is, you can tell them that all you want for Christmas is a bunch of BD's. Then they will be boosting the sales for BD even if they don't have a player! It never hurts for you to pick some titles up too Overall, just enjoy your selection, A blu theater is the best kind of theater!

I host Movie Night at my place once every week or so. My buddies love the blu! Now they all want PS3s.

Excellent choice in format. Curious though, what kind of player did you purchase?

Glad to hear of more support for our blu team. I am happy to report that though I do not work for BB I put on the blu ray uniform and went to work today. I was in browsing the BR isle and a guy was looking between the Blu side and the Red side of the movie isle so I decided to ask him what he was deciding on. He said he was looking to go HD and we proceeded to get to talking about both formats. I walked him over to the Blu Ray end cap with the demo disk running, watched it for about 10 minutes, all the while he was asking about players, movie selection and the set up. He already had a receiver and speakers and has a 12 year old son. I suggested the PS3. We then walked back over to the movies where he picked up 5 moives, had the PS3 and was a happy camper. I know he purchased the products as I was right behind him in line as I picked up a remote for my new 40 gig PS3. I left feeling I had done my good deed for the day. I got a big thank you from his as well.

The amount of power backing blu-ray corporate wise + sales % of disks above HD-DVD = Blu-ray will eventually win even if the so called stalemate draws out longer. All Toshiba can do is keep throwing money at people, and pray a miracle happens (aided by money bribes). Toshiba has so much to lose by losing the HD war, that I'm almost worried they will put serious financial damage on themselves.

Assuming Blu-Ray would win is the last thing I would recommend in this war. BR is against a very capable and defiant opponent who has managed to pull some strategic moves. In addition, it appears that the opposing camp's bribing abilities are very impressive.

My suggestion to you is to support Blu as much as I could and accept the idea that there is a long and difficult road ahead of us.

Buy Warner!

Ciao,
Pro-B

davidPS3 - that's an awesome story. It's nice to see some employees taking the time to help customers make informed decisons.

And to joe-dvd-man. Pretty much everytyhing has already been said. Buy some blu movies and ask for them as gifts. Again as mentioned, if your on the fence about a warner purchase, I'd suggest buying it to help make Warner's decision all the more easier for them. Put it ahead of a Sony title if that's what it takes as we know they aren't going anywhere.
