Default WB * Microsoft juicy contract $$$ rumor

this is not officila and my only link to this news is in french so I won't post it but...

next XBOX360's update is likely scheduled on Dec.4 with really big news.

- 1st, you'll be able to download for average 1200pts full XBOX games!! first list is Halo, Fable, Farenheit, Crimson Skies Crash Bandicoot & Burnout 3

- 2nd, we will finally have access to HD movies from marketplace (France)!! (this service in US is available for a long time)
and here is something weird...
apparently, Warner would have signed an important deal with M$ ...

should we presume other consequences from this deal??

and here,
here is the link for those who understand le francais

This would not affect anything with HD-DVD. Believe it or not but there are lots of studios releasing things to the XBOX Live... I think Disney does too but I am not sure.

This has nothing to do with HD-DVD. It is digital downloads, a different market.

Literal translation:

Quote:
The information comes straight from the Official Xbox 360 Magazine:
The Live service will soon turn into a virtual platform able to download older Xbox games. Starting December 4th, Xbox 360 owners will be able to buy Halo, Fable, Fahrenheit, Crimson Skies:High Road to Revenge, Crash Bandicoot: La Vengeance de Cortex and Burnout3: Takedown.
The price of each title is fixed at 1200 Microsoft pts, meaning about 14 euros.

At the same time, the company will put in place a Video On demand service. Users will download a first selection of films in HD. Apparently, Warner Bros. would also have signed an important agreement with Microsoft. We now wait for more details concerning this huge update.

This is clearly only a XBOX Live deal. The article is only about that, plus we'd hear about something big in USA before we hear about it in France.
WB is not going red, not only did they say they are waiting till after Q4, but they are also not dumb. Look at the numbers. Even after these "90k" HD-DVD players sold, they still can't get close to out selling BD movies in USA, and in the rest of the world, it is not even a competition. Japan is at 9:1, while UK is about 4:1. Face it, the war is a joke, USA will not decide the war, the WORLD does. And the world has spoken, BD is the winner and USA will just have to catch up to reality.

To repeat again...

We need to stop worrying about downloads. Studios, who are first and foremost in the CONTENT business, will look to all methods of content delivery to maximize profits and generate revenue. This is just good business sense. However, this has nothing to do with a Studios choice to deliver packaged media as source of revenue in form of Blu-ray or HD-DVD.

since ive heard 720p is more than good enough a million times out of the 360s fanbase, i have to assume this an awful thing for hd dvd. 360 fanboys would much rather just pony up a few live points for an wb hd download than go out and spend 30 bucks on a hd dvd, especially if the movie is not a keeper. this will eat into hd dvd sales. toshiba cannot be to happy. i think they are going to see very soon that MS is NOT their friend.

I agree. M$ has done little to really support Toshiba in this except to force them to stay in the format.
In fact, toshiba is the only major CE manufacturer that is not making Blu-ray players, and the only one making HD-DVD. They should at least start making BD players as well to make up for lost sales from M$'s deals and such.

Umm, *scratches head*, doesn't PS3 already offer older games for download? Yes.
And isn't IPTV coming to PS3 soon? I think so.
I think this news is good for Xbox users that play games. It shouldn't effect Blu-ray vs. HD DVD at all. IMO.

*Shrug*

why on god's earth would anybody with a 360 buy an add on anymore? you got much more of a selection with dl hd movies than with hd dvd and its a hell of a lot cheaper. im pretty sure 95% of xbox owners own vizios and the other 5% own westinghouses and ilos, so obviously quality doesn't matter which would be hd dvds only real talking point over downloads. i know sony has talked of a similar service, but it won't see the light of day until after blu-ray has already won.

anybody else think their is a possibility that WB has made a decision to drop hd dvd and this is a way for them to make some quick MS $ and diversify how they distribute hd content. think about it, they drop hd dvd and go with MS downloads, they are still reaching half of their hd dvd base + all the millions who didn't buy the add on, on top of getting money from MS. its so much more lucrative to go with MS downloads than hd dvd. MS broadens its hd dl service, which makes it much more competitive against blu-ray. i think MS knows that hd dvds days are numbered and if they don't build up the dl service before it gets killed off, blu-ray is going to become mainstream real fast. we might be seeing a blu-ray v. download war.
