L4D2 was free for a little while on Christmas day on Steam.
I took advantage of the offer, and finally gave it a try today. Disclaimer: I do not play FPS in multiplayer. I have no interest in this kind of things other than the occasional adrenaline rush for very short periods of time. So, I figured at least there's the single player, which I somewhat enjoyed in L4D1 for a little while. Man, I'm not sure if TLOU spoiled me on survival/ shooting (TPS for TLOU)/ zombie apocalypse games, but my first 10 minutes have been complete garbage. Still no story (more or less expected after L4D1), but the gameplay has not changed at all either. Except that the game seems to throw even more zombies at you in waves of drooling running morons (er, zombies), and, well... that's it. For now, I just don't get it, unless the praises the game got back in the days were solely for MP... Will try again sometime, not much hope for it though. |

Oh man....how can you hate on L4D2? And for free no less?!?!?!?!?
You cannot compare it to TLOU, at all......! totally different style. To me, these games were the most fun with a full group of human squad mates |

![]() I don't know anyone who would play Left 4 Dead for it's narrative, but it is a very arcadey shooter meant to be played with friends. I prefer other horde mode games like Killing Floor, but it is really fun for what it is. |

Once you accept that there is no plot to speak of, its fun; but I've only played with people. Ai squadmates would be a little lame

Bringing up The Last of Us and relating it to Left 4 Dead is apples and oranges. They are two completely different experiences. The Last of Us as we know is extremely narrative driven, whereas L4D is very much dependent on its multiplayer. If you're playing L4D by yourself you're not playing it correctly.

Most of the appeal is the MP, though, and single player is boring. The fun is in playing with friends, or with people who are regulars and working together. The bots are useless. Scavenge is my favorite game mode as it's fast, tense and great for competition. I've spent countless hours in L4D2, 94% in that mode alone [Show spoiler] . When you give yourself time unrealistically comparing an apple to an orange, try the MP modes like Versus or Scavenge, man. I'm sure you'll have more fun there. |
