United Kingdom Wadjda

Wadjda Blu-ray

NEWS/TRAILER
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Wadjda-Blu-ray/91617/

Quote:
British distributors Soda Pictures have revealed that they are planning to bring to Blu-ray director Haifaa Al-Mansour's film Wadjda (2012). The release will be available for purchase online and in shops across the country on January 20th.

Wadjda is Saudi Arabia's first-ever submission for the Best Foreign Language Film Academy Award and the country's first film by a female director.

Synopsis: A rebellious Saudi Arabian girl hatches a plan to get her hands on the bicycle she craves in this coming-of-age story from first time director Haifaa Al-Mansour. Living within a conservative suburb of Riyadh, fun-loving eleven-year-old Wadjda (Waad Mohammed) has her heart set on a green bicycle so that she can beat the boys in their neighbourhood races. But when her mother (Reem Abdullah) forbids it, anticipating a reaction from a society that disapproves of women riding bicycles, an enterprising Wadjda decides to raise the money herself by entering a local Qur'an-reading competition that offers a cash prize.

Received this today, but not opened it up yet. Will watch it probably on Thursday or Friday and really looking forward to it. Soda release a lot of interesting titles and I'm hoping this sells well to encourage them more as they often stick to DVD only (Museum Hours, Renoir, Hannah Arendt for example).

Full extras:

"Making of Wadjda" documentary (33:24)
"Women Without Shadows" short film (41:44)
Start-up Trailers:
- "Monsieur Lazhar" (2:09)
- "Renoir" (1:55)
- "Museum Hours" (2:07)
Theatrical Trailer (1:52)

So missing the commentary and Q&A from the USA release, but gaining the short film. It's 1080p AVC, optional English/English HoH subtitles, and Arabic DTS-HD MA 5.1 and LPCM 2.0 audio tracks. Quick glance through it, and it looks superb.

Are all the bonus features in 1080p resolution, and is it a BD-25 or a BD-50?

Thanks.

BD25

All extras are AVC encoded, but only the making of/theatrical trailer is in HD IIRC. I only had a quick look and watched ther first 45 mins last night, but will let you know for sure.

The short film Women Without Shadows is in SD PAL as this is how it was shot, but yes, everything else is 1080p.

Finished up the movie. Fantastic film. PQ is almost reference quality, but there was some minor aliasing here and there, most notably when the teacher tells the students the prize has increased from 800 to 1000.

Thinking about double dipping and also grabbing the USA release for the commentary and Q&A.
