Approximately 70,000 theaters have closed until they can get a handle on the outbreak. Any major Hollywood films coming up?
Chinese New Year is the busiest time for movies in China and this closure will likely cost box-office revenue to lose $1B+. This will be a death blow to those movies. Obviously health is paramount over business, I'm just speculating on what major Hollywood films will be effected. Last edited by Underworld54; 01-26-2020 at 05:07 PM. |

No Time to Die's release date has been shifted because of this virus. Chances are it may affect more movies as well as other theaters, potentially if things escalate over the coming months. |

Over here as well if the infected numbers rise, I read a tweet from a guy in Twitter who said his company is looking into having everyone work from home instead of traveling.

It's not a smaller movie per se, but it's too bad Sony doesn't have Ghostbusters: Afterlife ready to go in early April. It may not play in China anyway given its subject matter and its current release date in early July is sandwiched between a bunch of blockbusters(Top Gun 2, Minions 2, Tenet, Jungle Cruise).

I'd nominate In the Heights if April is really that wide open. The original date of 6/26 is not bad (it's competing against Top Gun: Maverick), but it can probably be more successful long-term if they sandwiched it between New Mutants and Black Widow.

I don't think moving a studio summer tentpole UP on 5-6 weeks notice is doable. You have things like cast schedules to contend with when doing a promotional push and they are locked down much further in advance when it comes to availability windows surrounding a launch. If anything moves into that date, I'd wager it would be something smaller.

According to studio sources, at the moment, things are going full speed ahead for the summer releases. But the month of March will be critical in deciding that, and if there is still major impact on the global market by the end of the month, there is a good chance Black Widow (rumor is Disney would move that to The Eternals slot in November and Eternals into 2021) and Fast 9 will get delayed. |

Universal already scheduled the Trolls movie in 007's former spot.
