Default Whats up with Engadget?

I've noticed that lately EngadgetHD.com has become a place for HD-DVD BS when not too long ago they seemed to be neutral when it came to the format war. Recently all I've seen is a bunch of articles about how HD-DVD is gaining momentum and is making the Blu camp sweat. There is very little about the truth of the war anymore or how much the Blu camp is kickin butt. Here is a link to their homepage. Just scroll down. It won't take long for you to find a handful of these articles I speak of.

http://www.engadgethd.com/

Oh and since I know that this is still a sore subject continue a page or two into the website and you'll see multiple articles that they are still reporting about the 190K sales of Transformers and how it vastly outsold Spiderman.

I've been struggling to read through their crap for weeks now and am frustrated because I used to think of this as a good site for getting quality unbiased tech news but that seems to have changed. Does anyone know if they have a parent company and if so who is it or who might be shoveling them money to them for this change in perspective? Anyway just sharing my frustration with my Blu Brothers.

I've noticed that someone has been working overtime to make google searches come up with pro-HD-DVD crap.

One was an Engadget article from last year, stating that the war was over, and HD-DVD won (a year ago). You almost have to dig hard to find that it's all dated on information from over a year ago!

Why on Earth would that one be one of the first articles Google finds??

I know, seriously. When I think about the stats... 420,000 HDUD players to over 2.5 million blu-ray players (American numbers). The whoopin we're putting to them in software blu-ray sales week in, week out. We've won every week in the Nielsen's this year.

I keep asking myself: How is it they're still alive?

About engadget, I remember seeing a lot of HD DVDers saying in Blu -Ray favorable news that engadget was "Pro Blu Ray anyway".

I have noticed the new stance since about a week, that seem more hard ball toward Blu Ray and, although not too obviously biased, more lenient on HD DVD side.

Wonder if it's to reverse a perceived bias, only to create another ?

You are not factoring in XBOX 360 addons in your numbers. And not all PS3s are being used for blu ray playback, so the x millions of PS3 factor gets dilluted.

As long as HD DVD is in the range of a 35-40% market share of media sales don't expect anyone to die.

Until Blu Ray standalone prices get down to the same range as HD DVD, there will be little progress on the war.

The one thing HD DVD is better at is FUD and viral marketing.

Seems there a lot of "HD DVD has massive momentum" stories popping up all over. HD DVD has always used biased reporters as a propaganda tool.

It must be aimed at us, because I can't see how anything short of real momemtum will work with the general public.

I somewhat agree whit what you’re saying. They do seem a little red leaning but I prefer to think of them as realist. HD-DVD is gaining momentum faster than blu-ray and I wouldn’t doubt that HD-DVD is making the Blu-ray camp sweat(Atleast a little)

I just believe that people in the Blu-ray camp and on this forum especially have become too complacent. They just assume that HD-DVD is already done for. They believe that Blu-ray is number one and always will be number one and fail to acknowledge any gains(large or small) by the HD-DVD camp. That’s why when most of these stories come out they are labeled “Pro-HD-DVD” when in reality they may be spot on accurate.

I’ll I can say is never underestimate your enemy and always try to keep and open mind.

Yep, when it comes creating 100% pure horse manure, the BDA just can't compete with the HD DVD camp.

The HD-DVD PG must have a few people who spread FUD as full time jobs.

Hmmm, can we name a few?

HA. Who gives a flying f*** about Engadget? Guess what, they are not going to affect the war at all, no matter how much FUD or spin they spread.
They are full of it and it seems obvious that they are very biased to HD-DVD.
But so are many other sites.
But the fact is, internationally, they are a gnat. The consumers have spoken, and world wide, Blu-ray is the winner, and HD-DVD doesn't have a chance.
It is just a matter of time before USA realizes this too.

I don't know what you guys are talking about. I can link to numerous posts where we talk about how HD DVD is getting killed. There are also tons of comments about how we are really EngadgetBD and they call me Ben Blu-ray Drawbaugh, just cause I only own a Blu-ray player. I have also written editorials with titles like "Why Blu-ray will win".

We debunk the spin on both sides and in a way, being called biased by both sides only reaffirms that we are unbiased.

As for the HD DVD PR machine, yes they are much more effective than the BDA. They continuously email out "tips" and offer review units. While at the same time the BDA doesn't respond to emails and when they do, they still won't send a player for review. In fact the only Blu-ray reviews we've done are ones where writer bought the unit themself.
