Cool More good news -- Harry Potter Whipping HD-Blah on Amazon

Quote:
Harry Potter Blu-Ray whips HD-DVD
Navigation: Home / Blog article: Harry Potter Blu-Ray whips HD-DVD
Posted on November 15th, 2007 by PS3Vault

The format war has had some twists and turns, but it has certainly gone on longer than anybody expected due to some fierce competition from both sides (as well as some deep pockets).

Along come Warner Bros’ Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, arguably the biggest HD multi-format release this year. On Amazon.co.uk, the movie is making a large impact, leading the sales chart for both formats. However, Amazon has also consolidated HD sales into their regular movie sales, which gives us a comparison in performance of the two formats. As of earlier today, the Blu-ray version is holding the 105 spot, while the HD-DVD disc only managed to climb to number 321 on the overall sales chart.

So it seems that Blu-ray is currently leading in sales of blockbuster titles like Harry Potter. However, we can’t be sure that’ll mean a thing until the HD movie market achieves mainstream success. All Sony knows is that thousands of Blu-ray players entering people’s homes everyday in the form of the PlayStation 3 can’t hurt. We’ll have more from the format war soon.

This type of news just never gets old.

Seriously...anyone want to bet when we'll see a "buy the Harry Potter boxset, get a free player" promotion? Like they did it with the Matrix boxset before.

enjoy

Well, I was thinking it was whipping HD DVD , but when I've been looking lately; not so much.

the 5th movie for HD DVD is a combo which hurts Blu I think. It's 200 spots higher for HD DVD.

The first - fourth are all WAY higher for Blu. (thousands)

The boxset is 55 spots higher in Blu.

I think we'll win all but the 5th movie due to the combo version.

On the fifth movie all the extras and deleted scenes/featurettes, etc., are in 1080p HD on the Blu-ray.

On HD DVD they are in standard definition.

Sucks to only have 30GB doesn't it?

Is that confirmed yet, or only still "possible" about the 51gb?

HD-DUD has never successfully created a disc with more than 2 layers.
