with big names like sony banging on about 4k i was woundring is anyone gonna go 4k in the future ? I still buy dvd's and blu's and i am sick of upgrading from one format to another .
I don't see people living in the uk going 4k for another 10 years or even longer. |

Nope. Until the really big TVs or projectors come down in price and they sort out how to distribute the content conveniently I'm staying well clear. I think the introduction of 4K will only confuse a confused public with regards to what's available with home video.
The only plus is that we might see 4K transfers of much-loved classics filtered down to Blu-ray. |

for home release maybe, but it was shot in 4k, thus my statement about the format being around already still stands

I think it's available to consumers with the money. Looking at the image below image if we had to make the size change in TVs comparable to the difference between the difference in resolution. Image the 1080p is a 42 inch TV. We would need a pretty big space in our living rooms!

There isn't an agreed standard for delivery yet and Sony have said they have no plans to sell their 4k hard disc/streamer in the UK (probably because of its creaking broadband where politicians count 2mbps as fast). I haven't seen 4k in operation but I suspect there is a law of diminishing returns where a really big screen is going to be needed to see much difference thus restricting the potential market even more than blu ray. Its very early days yet and not worth getting too excited about, maybe it'll be fantastic, maybe it'll be the new MiniDisc but with the global economy flatlining and more crises on the way, it'd be a brave man who bet on it.
