United Kingdom Is anyone going to jump on the 4k bandwagan ?

with big names like sony banging on about 4k i was woundring is anyone gonna go 4k in the future ? I still buy dvd's and blu's and i am sick of upgrading from one format to another .

I don't see people living in the uk going 4k for another 10 years or even longer.

I've only just started my blu ray collection in the last year or so, if that. No plans at all to upgrade.

Will be disappointed if it overtakes blu ray any time soon because of that!

Definitely no. It seems to me that these 4k editions are nothing but 'superbit' blu-rays.
What bugs me is that there are still so many wonderful movies yet to be upgraded to blu-ray. And they are already talking about a new format.

Nope. Until the really big TVs or projectors come down in price and they sort out how to distribute the content conveniently I'm staying well clear. I think the introduction of 4K will only confuse a confused public with regards to what's available with home video.

The only plus is that we might see 4K transfers of much-loved classics filtered down to Blu-ray.

4k will not take off at all.

It will DIE a slow painful DEATH...just like 3D is.

The Hobbit was mastered in 2K, so it's not even up to the task.

There's a thread in the US forum, with a list of actual 4K titles.

I'm not bothering my arse, personally.

for home release maybe, but it was shot in 4k, thus my statement about the format being around already still stands

When I buy a new receiver next year, and a projector in a few years when I move to a more suitable place, I'll just make sure that they are 4k compatible, so if 4k does take off then I'll just need a new 4k blu-ray player

I think it's available to consumers with the money. Looking at the image below image if we had to make the size change in TVs comparable to the difference between the difference in resolution. Image the 1080p is a 42 inch TV. We would need a pretty big space in our living rooms!

I know it was shot in 4K, (I've heard 5K elsewhere). My point, was that it wasn't finished in 4K. All the effects were done in 2K as well.

No interest for me.
Personally, I hope it dies just as quickly as the stupid DVD Superbit range did.

There isn't an agreed standard for delivery yet and Sony have said they have no plans to sell their 4k hard disc/streamer in the UK (probably because of its creaking broadband where politicians count 2mbps as fast). I haven't seen 4k in operation but I suspect there is a law of diminishing returns where a really big screen is going to be needed to see much difference thus restricting the potential market even more than blu ray. Its very early days yet and not worth getting too excited about, maybe it'll be fantastic, maybe it'll be the new MiniDisc but with the global economy flatlining and more crises on the way, it'd be a brave man who bet on it.

It's too costly for me to upgrade to 4K. I'm only a student after all, I don't have that kind of money on me.

Yes, of course I'll upgrade to 4K at some point, and I'll bet everyone else in this thread will. Just a matter of time until it becomes affordable and there's content.

Hopefully the BDA hurry up with 4K on BD

I like my 4K where it belongs, in the cinema.
