Default 1St NZ Blu-ray promotion "I" have seen

I just recieved the latest Noel Lemming brochure in the mail (they are a semi-large retail outlet here) and in it they are giving away the BDP 1400 blu-ray player by redemption with purchase of a Samsung 46" LCD...

This could be the start of a push here in NZ - good news in my opinion!

Go blu Go!

Ive only seen few players... I went to a home theater store in a city close by and they were running everything on HD DVD yet when i asked for a demo it was the worst display and sound Ive ever heard then i thought "wait a minute... the 5th element is Blu exclusive!" they were showing me a SD DVD on there system i laughed and walked out

Unfortunately here in the US we have the same problem. Sales reps. seem to be either deceptive or oblivious.

Yea very sad... One of my friends works at a store and he is trying to organize a free movie promotion with the purchase of Players - Sony has said they will reimburse his store for the titles - so this is also good news for NZ if only more stores would take the initiative.

Default Not quite the first

Last month I purchased a new Sony TV, and recieved a free Sony BDP-S300 Blu-ray player. This scheme is running nationwide in NZ through to the end of December on selected Sony TV's. Back in June Sony were also offering a free Playstation 3's with selected Sony TV's.

So Sony NZ have been very active in promoting Blu-Ray

Word.

A friend works at JB HiFi in queen street and was impressed on how well 300 on blu-ray sold. Just checked out the JB Hi Fi in albany and they had 3 screens all playing Blu. Unfortunately though theyve started stocking HDDVD.... Heroes, Hot Fuzz and some other old films.

I think a standalone HDDVD still costs nz$1500. Pretty crazy.

Until recently Sony & Warner were the only studio's releasing BD's in New Zealand, but I now see that Disney have also come aboard with several new releases. The prices are ridiculous $NZ49.95 each (about $US38) so I will probably still buy region free titles from Amazon.

Whitcoulls, a large book, stationery and DVD store, are now stocking most NZ BD releases, but no HD DVD titles. In fact I see very few HD DVD discs around Christchurch retailers.

I know several PS3 owners here in NZ, and I can assure you that they are all fully aware that the console plays Blu-ray movies. I personally bought my PS3 60GB for watching BD's as it was the best and cheapest way to get into the wonderful world of Blu-ray.

Titus

I am thinking of buying a region A stand alone player (possibly Panasonic DMP-BD30) so that I can take advantage of the Amazon sales like the $US10 off Pixar Cars & Ratatouille sale.

Where in Japan did you import your player, and do the 110v to 240v adaptors work okay with these players

Mine is a Japp PS3 that i imported through a guy in Aus - I could try track down the company details if you like but doubt they still do them now as this was before the Eu-Aus-NZ release.

Considering its a PS3 it has universal power supply so just using an old computer plug runs it fine :-)

The company i got it from was real good cause they labelled it as "computer parts" and as a "gift" on the customs declaration so it didnt get pinged or stopped when it entered the co****ry

But yea anything to help the war in US is a good plan! Its virtually won everywhere else - and it is deff nice to be able to get in on the deals happening over there too
