Universal, Jason Blum Throw 'Purge' Sequel Into Development

I could see this going down the path of Final Destination or Paranormal Activity. What I mean is that the first one goes way beyond expectation and the sequels continue with more of a cult following than a big blockbuster following. They remain entertaining to an extent but they don't break the bank.
Since the story is built around an annual event it's easy to see that there could be endless stories of revenge and retribution. They have already made over 11x their investment on this film and it's not done. By the time DVD and Blu-ray profits are factored in, plus the remainder of box office they will profit 20 times over....Of course sequels are coming! |

The Purge 4: Purge Nation
The Purge 5: The Purge Surge The Purge 6: Purging the Purge The Purge 7: Purge is the Word The Purge 8: The Final Purge The Purge 9: The Return of the Purge The Purge 10: The Urge of the Purge The Purge 11: Purge in Space If they go over 11, then I think they are just milking it...unless they reboot it, then that's fine. |

I haven't seen it yet, but I know some people who have and from general thoughts around the net. I understand why a sequel got greenlit, but they're crazy if they think it will do anywhere near as well. The budget will be more and box office will be less. People in general thought it was terrible from what I've gathered.

based off of return on investment, I am not surprised but it looks like such a dumb movie to me. want to know how to stay protected - flood your yard for like a week before this, cut off one end of an electrical cord and toss it into the flooded yard, plug in the other end. end of problem. I don't know about you but if society was that screwed up that we need a purge night, I'd be moving to the mountians somewhere.

The difference between this and the Saw/Paranormal Activity films is that those franchises had that first movie that got people talking, and it was mostly positive talk.
