I bought Inferno from Amazon when it was 15.99 and when I opened it I found that it was clearly second hand, instead of sending it back (which I should have done) I kept it because the disc played fine. Later on when the price went down to 8.99 I bought another copy which was brand new, crazy.
Now I have just bought Sleeping Beauty Disney blu ray from Amazon and it was clearly second hand although it was sealed, I sent it back for replacement and just got it today, guess what, it too is second hand, there are scuffs on the case and the discs look used. This should be against the law, Amazon selling second hand stuff and passing it off as new. Does anyone know the customer service number for Amazon UK? |

I was under the assumption that all that stuff got sold under the Amazon Warehouse account.

Just got delivered today, in honesty i was questioning its condition, the actual blu-ray disks in fairness are pristine, but their is a slight scratch on the DVD disk, and the top of the case does have some plastic wear. Plus there was no Disney Movie Rewards code included, though i understand that early issues of this wont have had a Reward code, I believe! I was thinking of returning it but to be quite frank ive had so many issues actually getting the order so far it seems like too much stress! If you want to contact customer services go to the help section on the website and click 'how to contact customer services' all the details are there! ![]() |

As far as I'm aware, resold discs as new are returns under the distance selling act. As goods should be returned in an as new condition etc, they're legally allowed to sell them as new unless they were returned as faulty, in the same way that HMV/Tesco etc can put things back on the shelf.
It sucks, but it's not against the law |

I've had this happen to me several times now from Amazon UK, and twice from Amazon US, and I've decided that I'm not going to accept second-hand goods sold at an as-new price — especially not if Amazon can't be bothered checking the product for damage before it's sent out to a customer who's expecting (and paid for!) a copy in perfect nick. I don't much care if yet another piece of legislation has allowed companies to find more ways to outsource their product overheads to unsuspecting customers, I'm not wearing it. |

I had a DVD a few months back that was clearly second-hand. I sent them an email and they got a new one out with 1st class post. Amazon won't ever admit to selling second-hand goods as far as I'm aware.
As for telling whether something is a reseal it seems to be getting harder. Blu-rays really should all have that branded cigar-band on them so consumers know for sure but not all studio put them on. Usually if the shrinkwrap looks wrong then it's time to get suspicious but some cases have shrinkwrap and some have the cellophane wrappings. If there's a sticker on the inside that might be a good indication as most of them are on the outside of the shrinkwrap but I had a DVD the other day that looks brand new and it has a label on the inside! So you'll need to see them in-store to see where the labels go! Another good sign is the cover looks scuffed, most new cases should be 100% pristine until you but them on your shelf which usually scuffs them up a bit. |

I bought The Spirit a few months back from Play.com... was "sealed" in what looked like cling film and was defiantly pre-owned. I think it's so deceiving when they do this.
My copy of Planet Terror and True Romance from Amazon also seemed iffy to me. The really tight seal that has hard edges at the side always seem questionable. |

Another one is to look for finger prints on the case underneath the seal. If you hold it in a certain light you can spot finger prints easily. If you move the seal around with your thumbs you'll tell if the finger prints are on are on the case itself. This also applies to scuffs. |

If the plastic is tight around the case, it is probably resealed (not allways, but it is most likely).
If the plastic is not tight around the case, it is most likely that the blu-ray is 100% new. There is almost allways a strip when it is sealed correctly. I'll try to give you an example. This is a 100% new blu-ray, sealed correctly, the plastic is not tight and there is a strip to remove the plastic easily. ![]() The plastic on this blu-ray is tight and there is no strip to remove the plastic easily (look at the edges of the case). This is a new blu-ray (I know it because it is mine), but the chance that you have a resealed blu-ray is higher when it is sealed like this. ![]() |

If only it were that easy... Amazon do have a pro re-sealer. I have ordered numerous used items from Warehouse Deals that have had a proper loose film seal on them. I don't think they can do the BRD strip, though, but some blu's don't have that any way. |

Although it is a bit naughty, I'm not too bothered with re-seals if its a catalog title thats only cost £5-7.
What does grip my shit though are sellers like the a*sehole I bought 'Identity' from last week. I got a German blu-ray with an inkjet copy of the UK sleeve shrunk down and made to fit a slim case. |

I'm wondering if people are getting these BDs, ripping them, and then simply shipping them back for a refund, without caring about what state the discs are in. And Amazon obviously isn't checking them, either; I'm probably living in a bit of a dream, but I'd rather they made some effort towards seeing that they didn't send out bodgy product in the first place than "fix" it afterwards by simply throwing money at it. Of course, it could be worse: they could still be sending out recycled product with a much less generous returns policy. |

I'm in two minds about it, while it is a bit cheeky as long as it's in good condition I doubt I'd go the the trouble of returning it. But then I will go for the best price whether that's used or new, buying used doesn't bother me in the slightest.
