Default Question about playing DVDR's of MP3's (RE: BDP-S185 )

A friend of mine has a Sony BDP-S185 Bluray player, and I put a bunch of MP3's on a DVD-R for him, and he said it will not play. I also put them on a thumbdrive and he connected it via the USB drive, and it also would not play.

At first I thought maybe he had to switch over to another mode, like I did on an old phillips Divx player, switching between DVD and the USB drive, but he's had no problems playing media on the thumbdrive or the DVDR's before, but now it's not recognizing the MP3's.

Is there any reason this should be doing this? Would appreciate the help. Thanks.

Its been a while since Ive had a PS3, but correct me if Im wrong doesn't music have to be placed in a folder on the root drive named MUSIC ?

Even DVD-R since its a data disc follows this Folder structure.

http://m.wikihow.com/Add-an-External...-PlayStation-3

Quote:
Create a folder system identical to that on the PlayStation 3. All folder names must be in capital letters. In the root directory of your drive, create folders named "PICTURE", "MUSIC", and "VIDEO". If you do not create these folders, your media files will not display when selecting the USB drive on your PS3, although you can access them if you press the triangle button and select "display all". If you will also be storing backups, save game data or themes, create a folder called "PS3" with folders called "EXPORT", "SAVEDATA", and "THEME" inside it.

If this was already done then might also try pressing the Triangle button > Show All under the Music section in the PS3

After the Navy, I stopped drinking!

I think it was just really late and my eyes were deceiving me.

Is there anything unusual about these particular MP3's? Such as variable bitrate, or perhaps a bitrate the player does not handle properly?

If anything, try to ensure a constant bitrate of 192 or 256 kbps. (This is most common for MP3 compatibility)

Most seem to be 192, some are 160, others are 320.

Could also be the sample rate. I had some FLAC files that were sampled at 96KHz and converted them to MP3 to put on a USB for my car and my stereo would not read them. Went in and re-sampled them to 44.1KHz and all was well. Kind of doubt this is the issue but worth mentioning.
