Default Clown (2014)

Dimension Films and Anchor Bay Entertainment have announced the home video release of the Eli Roth (Knock Knock, Hostel franchise) produced horror-thriller CLOWN. The unique, frightening and disturbing take on evil clowns, CLOWN will arrive on Blu-ray and DVD on August 23rd. Head inside for more!

The movie was directed by Jon Watts, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Christopher Ford, and stars Peter Stormare (Fargo), Laura Allen (TV’s “All My Children,” “The 4400”) and Elizabeth Whitmere (The Last Hitman).

Synopsis:

CLOWN is a story of a loving father who dons a clown outfit and makeup to perform at his son’s sixth
birthday, only to later discover that the costume – red nose and wig included– will not come off and his
own personality changes in a horrific fashion. To break the curse of the evil outfit, the father must make grim choices with his own family facing danger.

Extras include “Making Clown Featuring Producer Eli Roth.”

Next time maybe put the movie title in quotations or something, I read the title of the thread and thought you were calling Eli Roth a clown.

Is this another case from Anchor Bay where it's gonna be a retail DVD and a BD-R only on Amazon?

When I was in Target I noticed a DVD of The Family Fang, which Anchor Bay gave a BD-R released through Amazon. It looks like the Joost/Schulman movie Viral is being given the same fate, as evidenced by the fugly "Blu-Ray disc" logo on Amazon's listing.

This is by no means a great film, but it is fun and well worth the likely asking price of $10 - $15. I'll be picking this one up on release day if it makes it to stores. If not, I'll for sure grab it shortly there after.

Very good news indeed. I may need to grab this and Ash vs. Evil Dead that day. My Best Buy is pretty lousy these days (I'm pretty sure it's worse than most) but hopefully these both miraculously end up in store.

Viral is getting a legit DVD release, but for blu-ray--it's BD-R only.

I'm assuming Clown will be a legit BD.

According to VideoETA, Clown will be a pressed Blu-ray as there will also be an Ultraviolet code included (the cover also confirms the inclusion of the code). You never see BD-R's packaged with UV codes.

Meanwhile on the question of Anchor Bay titles that are BD-R's, The Young and Prodigious T.S. Spivet, Shanghai, and What Lola Wants are BD-R's as well. I remember being really surprised to see Regression be a pressed Blu-ray as that one was like T.S. Spivet and Shanghai and dumped into second-run houses.

What the F! I wanted Shanghai, Viral and The Family Fang!

Can I pay Amazon with monopoly money? You know fake money for a fake Blu-Ray?

Looking at its title, did anyone else think this thread was calling Eli Roth a clown? I'm not a fan of his movies at all, but even that would be a tad harsh.

Which of his films have you watched? His stuff has changed over the years and you may find that you enjoy some of the works he produced but didn't direct. Clown is pretty enjoyable for modern horror. Not great, but work a look. I'd highly recommend "The Sacrament" however if you're looking for something a bit different. Not so much horror, but quite enjoyable. I never much cared for Cabin Fever but thought the first Hostel was good and have found some of his other work good - great as well. Inglorious Basterds being a prime example.
