I’m surprised no one made a thread of this earlier.

Maybe it wasn't confirmed to be in 3D as it is now and the forum has been having its fair share of 3D movies that didn't happen.

There's also a lot less excitement for titles that are doomed to be dumped out onto the AVP with no 3D Blu-ray release.

Indeed, it's utterly sad that they've managed to convert 3D films into a platform exclusive, in a sense. Hating this shift in business strategy of treating things as "content", as opposed to approaching them as cinema / art. They're literally pissing an entire dimension away owing to business decisions, and this is no better than the archaic practice of "vaulting" titles.

I loved it. The 3D is possibly even more intentional than the first film, which I rewatched last night. You cannot forget for a second while watching Inside Out 2 that the film is stereoscopic, it's actually in your face during certain moments with objects shot right out at the screen. Some 2D flat characters appear, but they even employ depth with those characters in a creative way, building on a similar idea to the "abstract thought" sequence from the first movie. Characters are shot through tubes, fly though the air, cascades of particles blow around... stunning! They recreated some of the "spirit tree" shots from Avatar as well. And possibly most important, but they employ stronger stereo at key story moments. It's a beautiful, touching film and will be appreciated by people of all ages. The only real downside from a 3D perspective is that the movie is scope and not 1.85.

Thank you again to Bob Whitehill and co - this is some of the best stereo work from Pixar, in my opinion.

Actually, there is a positive side to the studios not releasing the blu 3D when a title was shown as 3D in the theater. Tis saving me a bunch of money. I know it is silly of me....but you can call me silly and.....a bit richer. If they were released in 3D, i would be a bit poorer.

Disney have saved us all a lot of money it's true. So many 3D films we'd pay full retail price for on 3D Blu-ray and they just don't want to cash in. It seems crazy that movie companies don't want to sell movies in the formats customers want, but that's entertainment!

Have tickets for the 3D fan event on Sunday, looking forward to it. Rewatched the first movie in 3D last night and it is mostly a typical Pixar 3D presentation. Mediocre but absolutely adds to the overall package.

I look forward to not being able to buy it on 3D blu-ray.

I'll likely buy it on UHD though because my girlfriend likes the first film and we own it on both 3D and UHD. I'd choose the 3D almost every time but I admit the UHD is stunning with the HDR colors. The 3D in the first film was typical Pixar - fair overall, great in some shots but weak in others.

I hate that Disney has dropped out of 3D discs pretty much entirely now. It's baffling and depressing. Put these out as 3D/UHD combo packs like the movienext discs in Japan if that would help justify the 3D discs better.

Saw in 3D tonight and enjoyed! Would love the chance to buy it on disc one day. Never gonna happen though. Best chance is someone hacks the apple vision pro one day and sells a bootleg.

I saw it in 3D the other night, thought it was quite good with ample depth throughout the presentation. Definitely looks like it is rendered in 3D. I imagine there's some pop out moments (like hockey pucks flying towards you) but I'm not super receptive to seeing these. Due to some extreme contrast areas (those "Sense of Self" threads for example) you get crosstalk occasionally.

My girl and I saw this in 3-D today. We both loved it and the 3-D was above average for Pixar, very nice indeed, with good depth and at least one popout, which even made me flinch a bit. Go catch it while you can, as there’s zero chance of a 3-D Blu.

I won’t be seeing it in a cinema, if there’s no miracle in the form of a 3D BD I’ll just watch it on D+ later on. Such a shame.

You should though. The 3-D is very much worth it. Don’t cut off your nose to spite your face, as they say. Skipping the 3-D theatrical viewing to watch it in 2-D on Disney+ instead is backwards thinking for a 3-D fan IMO. I saw it in 3-D and will be skipping the 2-D. I have zero interest in watching 3-D films in 2-D.

Saw Inside Out 2 in cross-talk free, super bright Dolby 3D at the El Capitan. With a packed audience oo'ing and ahh'ing at, according to the group behind me, "the best 3D we've ever seen".

We loved the movie too. It flies by at a fast 96 minutes, and could've held our attention for another 30. It doesn't reinvent the Inside Out wheel, but it fires on all cylinders and has plenty of gas left in the tank.

The editing is just a bit zippy for 3D, but the character animation feels more paced for stereo than it was in Inside Out. There's a surprising amount of borderline gimmicky shots; several hockey pucks fly off the screen, even ramping down to slow-mo for a second so the eye has time to soak it in. Lots of icy particles in the hockey scenes as well, and lots of depth, z-axis movement, and vortexes inside Riley's mind. My favorite 3D scene involves a character animated in a different art style, which should please fans of Into the Spider-Verse and/or Paper Mario.

Inside Out 2 continues Pixar's comeback, with great story, great animation, and great, intentional 3D.

Great to see Pixar probably took the time to render out the 3D instead of having it converted for less money or a milder conversion. The Stereo artists in the credits being a clear sign it was likely in-house or else it would normally say '3D Conversion by". Thanks, good image to capture!
Sounds like they cared about the 3D audience and didn't just dial it in with mild 3D for most of it.
