Japan Yamada's Samurai Trilogy (Twilight Samurai/Hidden Blade/Love & Honor)

The samurai trilogy by Yoji Yamada is now available for pre-order in Amazon.jp. Here's hoping all three have English subs:

Twilight Samurai (Oct 23)

The Hidden Blade (Dec 23)

Love & Honor (Dec 23)

No English subs. Only Japanese subtitles.

So unfortunate since the DVDs had English subs, but given that the HDDVDs didn't, I should have expected the Blu-rays to have them.

Ah well, hope the HK, US, UK, or Korean distributors aren't far behind.

I'm not liking this trend of leaving off English subtitles for the Blu-ray release when the DVD had them. I'm guessing it's because North America and Japan are both region A, whereas the DVDs could be region 2 locked.

think it has something to do with how BD prices are high and the demand is reasonable enough in japan to make the companies want to keep reverse-imports at bay for as long as possible. have heard suggestions that you'd generally be looking at a window of 6 months between japan and elsewhere - also, it helps that although subs were always rare on J discs, zone locking on BD has been far more successful than it ever was on DVD.

Funimation is going to release Love and Honor on Blu in the near future. The other two titles are owned by two diffrent conpaines here so their release is very unlikely.

Panorama has the rights to Twilight Samurai and Hidden Blade in HK, so there is a good chance we might see them come out there.

Any further info? It seems The Hidden Blade has been released. Are there any legit releases of Twilight Samurai with English subs? Did that funimation Love and Honor ever happen?

The HK release is legit. It is a bit softer than the JP and has a fairly low bit rate. I've only checked a few minutes of it when I first got it a year or so ago and it looked fine, everything considered. I don't think there are any alternatives right now.

And no, the Love and Honor BD never happened.
