USA Possible to overhaul PM system?

I'm not sure if this has been discussed before, either in this sub-forum or any other, but a search did not reveal such.

I was wondering if it would be possible to overhaul the messaging system. Or more specifically, what would be required to do so both from a technical standpoint and a formal request standpoint? I do quite a bit of trading in various threads and it can become a beast to try to follow a conversation with a specific member if my Inbox starts to pile up with messages from several members. There are other forums that have messages organized into Conversations and I very much enjoy that way of viewing messages.

I'm pretty sure that in order to facilitate such a change it might require that the entire forum be changed to use a different software, and I can imagine that is a task not taken lightly.

Any input from an Admin or a Mod in the know would be great, thanks!

Unfortunately you're right. Either we have to change forum software, or upgrade the current one (vBulletin) to a newer version (not sure if it supports what you want though). The problem with upgrading to a newer vBulletin version is that there have been very serious exploits coming out regularly, so for that reason it's not a good idea to upgrade. Unfortunately you have to live with the current PM system for quite some time longer, until we have found a better forum software in general or the new vBulletin versions have finally become stable.

I was pretty sure there wasn't just a toggle switch to turn it on/off, but I figured I would ask anyway. Thanks for the insight iceman!

I prefer the current vbulletin software even with all it's warts since it's simple and effective.

Look what happened to several other forums (AVS, HTF, to name a few) which changed forum software, some more than once, which resulted in the loss of a lot of previous users.

My suggestion is put the entire conversation's text in a quote yourself before replying to someone you're making deals with. That way at least you have a full record of the conversation, even if the person responding doesn't quote.

Default Problem with PM System. 02/21/2014

I received a PM from a member last night. I read and responded to it.
Now, everytime I access the forum I keep getting the Pop-Up that I have a New PM, so I click OK, then Cancel.
It brings me back to the same PM.
I just deleted it, then click the Forum Button near the very top of the Page and I get the SAME Pop-Up saying that I have an unread PM.
It shows a count of one In BOTH the Blue Banner at the top and the Grey Banner under the Movie deals, where it says "Welcome"

Is anyone else encountering this?

Default How to search Private Messages?

Is there a way to search PMs like you can search forums?

I've seen this feature on other forums and would be nice if it was available here.

Thanks

Never heard of this before, some sort of caching bug? Is it solved now?
