Default No 1080p for sony

http://www.ps3land.com/article-583.php

The above article talks about how there may not be any games that run in 1080p for the ps3 that are at least confirmed for launch. Although 1080p is the highest resolution possible, it is unlikely that many games would run in 1080p because no xbox 360 games do. If I find out anything else new on the ps3, I'll be sure to post the link.

Yeah, very few people have native 1080i TVs let alone 1080p ones so it's no big deal.

1080p is a movie blu ray thing for PS3 really.

The 1080i stands for 1080 interlaced and 1080p stands for 1080 progressive. I don't have a flat panel tv, but I do know that interlaced means that only half of the lines on the screen are updated every second so it's like the first line is updated, the second line isn't and so on. Progressive means that all lines on the screen are updated every second. I may be a little off, but that is the general idea. It seems that most developers run their games in 720 resolution, but if the ps3 is capable of 1080, that will give Sony an advantage over Microsoft even if only some flat panel tvs support the resolution.

FWIW, if the 1080i is well implemented, you really can't see any differences between it and 1080p. Honest.

This is not true at all with video games. Movies are a different story.

You will need gto check your manual carefully. The 'native' is what is important. My 720p projector will accept 1080i ut downconverts it into something that represents 720p. Some TV's can downconvert from 1080i to 700 x 480 or there abouts, they then claim they are HD Ready!!! At this point in time genuine 1080p monitors are rare, but starting to become more plentiful.

What model do you have? I'm sure someone here can tell you buy just giving that information.

So far, it's only Gran Turismo HD (the next-gen) that could run full power High Definition @ 1080p.

The rest are just 720p.

--------------------------

Speaking of which, can the XBOX 360 handle 1080p resolutions or is it just stuck with 720 p or 1080 i at maximum???

I had a feeling that the DVD-9 (or should I say DVD-7) can't take the heat of higher resolutions but I just wanted to ask if it did.

Gran Turismo was shown at E3 running at 1080p so I think that the ps3 is capable of the resolution. The only two problems are that our tv needs to support 1080p and the developer needs to include it in the game

I would imagine that it will only be first party games that will offer 1080p, simply because the game will have to be tuned for the PS3 to get that level of performance; i.e. no slowdown at that resolution.

I believe it will happen, not that I have 1080p on my set!

I also hope Sony release a game that runs 1080p during 2007, as one of the MS 360 guys reckons 1080p games are just hype and we won't see any till 2008. Why is it that MS spend so much time taking swipes at Sony and PS3? If they directed as much effort at their own console they might meet their 10 million sales target on time! Seriously though, not a week goes by without someone at MS trying to belittle the PS3. Makes me think they are nervous...
