Italy The Third Man - heard anything about this transfer?

http://www.amazon.it/The-Third-Man-B...A11IL2PNWYJU7H

The interesting thing is that this has already had a Studio Canal release in Italy.

I've heard on another forum that some Italians at an Italian forum are saying this looks more like the Criterion version than the SC.

I know, that's third hand, at best.

Actually, SC didn't release it in Italy at all! However, I read those comments too, so I'm gonna give it a try - gonna order it in a few days. Needless to say, if it really features the Criterion master, it would be the proof this new label is releasing some illegal BDs here...

You know, I'm dead set against any sort of pirating and bootlegging.

But I've bought this film I don't know how many times on VHS, DVD and UK Blu-ray Disc. Even if this release is 'dodgy', I think I've paid the powers that be more than enough over the years for me to justify the purchase to myself morally.

I've ordered it, too. Probably a dud, but as it's in my Top 10 I'm prepared to take a punt.

...Dan, i think you should be very careful what you write here, as with an accusation like that (false accusation) you could go against to the legal consequences .

...Of course mine is just a suggestion, and you are obviously free to think whatever you want about it .

...Hello Pecker !

...The Italian Label Studio 4K are perfectly in order and she has legally acquired the rights for the publication of these BDs and what is inside .

...So, don't worry and buy with confidence, since there is no type of pirating and bootlegging , here .

...So For your joy ( for OUR JOY ), I can confirm that the new edition of the label BD STUDIO 4K uses the exact same Master of the wonderful and now OOP BD Criterion edition.

... From first glance, the video frame is extremely solid, with very high bitrate, grain clearly visible and well-managed and ZERO FILTERS, not like the BD Studio Canal, which I have ...

...The English audio track in DTS-HD-MA 2.0 is really Excellent !

...How to Extra, we have a very interesting documentary about the making of the Movie, titled: Shadowing the Third Man in 2005 and lasting 90 minutes, and even in this case, the documentary is also present in the Criterion BD edition , another sign , that in addition to the Master, the Italian Label has had the rights to enter even a few extra .

...Another quick test , that you can do to make sure that it was indeed the Master Criterion is as follows .

...As you can see, the screen of the two editions compared, (in addition to grain, retail, etc , well visible in the screen of the Criterion BD...) we show how the BD STUDIO CANAL is slightly cropped.
...Of course our Italian BD, in this case, is instead EXACTLY IDENTICAL to the yeld of the Criterion BD and therefore have no type of crop or zoom .

...Meanwhile, Here is a partial report of the Italian Edition, then later , I will insert the full Report and including the Bitrate Mapping Graphic ...:

THE THIRD MAN (IL TERZO UOMO)
Disc Size: 27.607.961.896 bytes
MPEG-4 AVC video 1080p / 23,976 fps
Dolby Digital Audio Italian / English 2.0 / 48 kHz
DTS HD Master Audio English 2.0 / 48 kHz

...Criterion UP :
...Studio Canal DOWN :

Default The Third Man

Just ordered this.
Sorry to go off topic (can't open a new thread yet), but has anybody had the chance to check out the italian The Stranger disc? Also on amazon.it:http://www.amazon.it/Lo-Straniero-Or...s=lo+straniero. I wonder if they used Film Chest's poor print or maybe Kino's better one? The inclusion of the Billy Wilder-shot Death Mills makes me hope for the latter, although, save for a trailer, the other Kino extras seem to be awol.

I too would like to share a piece of mind. First of all, a bootleg this is not, since it uses the same master featured on the CC edition, but with different encoding, audio tracks and subtitles. Considering what we know, tha master was legally acquired and the release has been vetted by the appointed authorities in terms of distributing copyrighted material.

@Dan8700: do you have any evidence corroborating your assumptions?

I suggest we focus on the release itself and not on our wildest hypotheses. When I get my copy, I'll duly post some accurate screen grabs.

Any word on the region coding? The fact that some of the other 4K Studio titles have been reported as all-region makes me excited and nervous.

Just placed an order willing to take a chance. By the way can anyone confirm if this release is region free or region locked.

Thanks

I tried to watch Alfred Hitchcock's Notorious (one of the Studio 4k first blu rays from the december releases) on my multiregion player. The verdict is: REGION ALL.

I too had the same feelings about them being sketchy when I initially saw the list of movies they were releasing around the same time. It just didn't sound right that they're getting The Lady from Shanghai, Thief of Bagdad, Third Man, Nosferatu, The Seventh Seal, The Stranger, The Adventures of Robin Hood, Notorious etc.. I'm sure they aren't doing anyting illegal though, and It's certainly an impressive library

Italy finally has its own Criterion, or Eureka!, or Carlotta or whatever you want to compare it with. No need to spoil it with some random accusations.

...Yes, the BD Italian edition of THE STRANGER , published by STUDIO 4K Label, uses the same EXACT (excellent) Master, using by KINO LORBER for their edition in BD

... Anyway, as soon as possible, we will make a good comparison also for the Italian BD edition of THE STRANGER .

...Although in this case the comparative is not calculated to equal Master used (BD Studio Canal uses a different OLD Master ,compared to the Criterion AND Studio 4K editions) is in any case useful to clarify the "doubt" that there are about BD Edition ITA compared with the BD Criterion Edition...:

...UP - STUDIO CANAL UK ;
...CENTER - CRITERION USA ;
...DOWN - STUDIO 4K ITA ...:

...STUDIO CANAL...

...CRITERION...

...STUDIO 4K...

...Here ARE compared the three different partial report, to the three different editions in BD...:

...CRITERION - USA :
Runtime: 1:45:13.348
Disc Size: 43,293,713,595 bytes
Feature Size: 27,234,594,816 bytes
Average Bitrate: 34.51 Mbps
Dual-layered Blu-ray AVC

...STUDIO CANAL - UK :

Runtime: 1:44:58.000
Disc Size: 49,547,069,955 bytes
Feature Size: 28,495,620,096 bytes
Average Total Bitrate: 36.20 Mbps
Dual-layered Blu-ray AVC

...STUDIO 4K - ITA :
Runtime: 1:44:21.255
Disc Size: 27.607.961.891 bytes
Feature Size: 22.280.020.608 bytes
Average Total Bitrate: 28,47 Mbps
Dual-layered Blu-ray AVC

...There is a little difference in terms of bitrate, between our BD ITA and the BD USA, but the BD edited by ITALIAN LABEL STUDIO 4K is in any case an EXCELLENT TRANSFER ! .

...The best, (ever in terms of bitrate) is absolutely the BD STUDIO CANAL, but unfortunately as we know, does NOT use the Wonderful Master of the Criterion Edition AND the Italian STUDIO 4K Edition .

...Here the link of Screen/comparison between the Criterion edition and the Studio Canal Edition, note (in addition to everything else ...) the crop/zoom ON the STUDIO CANAL Edition...:

...In any case, as soon as we will have a screenshots from BD ITA STUDIO 4K, ( exactly identical to the ones that I've posted in comparison ), we will make a further and decisive test between the U.S. CRITERION edition and the STUDIO 4K Italian edition , SO as to dispel ANY doubt.

...Here however, the Full report of the Italian STUDIO 4K Edition...:

...For now I really don't know Steve , probably in the future, maybe !

...However, in the meantime I propose a final comparative between BD STUDIO ITA vs 4K. BD USA CRITERION ...:

...Comparative directly in the frame : STUDIO 4K ITA VS. CRITERION USA...:

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comp...2864/picture:0

...And here, STUDIO 4K ITA vs. STUDIO CANAL UK...:

...Comparative directly in the frame : STUDIO 4K ITA VS. STUDIO CANAL UK...:

http://screenshotcomparison.com/comp...2867/picture:0

...So it's OFFICIALLY confirmed that we here in ITALY, we are the ONLY ones to have THE THIRD MAN on BD, with the same Master Used by Criterion, and it also seems that the yield of our BD ITA is even better than that of BD USA !!!

...Anyway Later, I will post the comparative screen also at full resolution 1920x1080

...And here are instead, the two comparative in a FULL SCREEN 1920x1080 Resolution, keep in mind that screen excerpts from our BD ita, are much more compressed than those of its foreign editions, so if you see some small compression artifact, or grain lightly kneaded it is ABSOLUTELY normal, but live is (obviously) ABSOLUTELY another thing so just imagine some of you...:
