Default SVS issues

I have a 2 sub system. A SVS and a Def Tech Supercube 1

My SVS PB12 NSD isn't really working. It rarely comes on where the front Def Tech is always firing on all cylinders.
The green power light is never on either on the SVS. Periodically it'll turn on but it's far and few in between working. When the green power light does come on, it doesn't work at all. I'm educated enough to know that a film is encoded to fire up the sub when it's called for but that's not the issue. It just doesn't work at all when the light stays on. Then of course the green power goes off and doesn't come back on after I get done messing with it. It doesn't work when it's toggled in the auto or on position. I've touched nothing at all other then what I've already stated and all connections seem to be secure

The rest of the system works perfectly fine except.......
.
Very close to the same time the SVS went out, the supercube acquired a hum. When I fiddle with the volume control knob in the back and turn it to zero, then back up to where I have it set and calibrated to, the hum will go away. At least for a while where ill then have to go through the entire process again to eliminate the hum.

Seems odd that both subs all of a sudden acquire issues close to the same time.
I know this is pretty general and vague but I'm hoping someone has an idea or two as to why this would happen.
The rest of my system is in my sig.

Thanx for any hopeful upcoming responses.

1)Disconnect the DT sub and run a single cable from the receiver to either input on the svs.

2)Set the svs to ON(not auto). If the power LED doesn't illuminate check the power cord to be sure it is securely connected. Still no LED? check the fuse on the sub. Still no LED might mean the amp needs repaired/replaced.

3)If the SVS operates normally after any of the above steps leave it playing for a while to ensure it doesn't begin to "drop out" as you described earlier.

Just one response but this post has been read. So...... If interested.
Turns out the Supercube has a short in it causing a kill/shut down on the SVS.
Thanks for the advice Tom.
Looks like a new SB2000 in a few days. Gonna sound great.

The DT has a "short"...but it keeps working and the svs would shut down?

How did you come to this conclusion?

If you have any doubt about the DT, run a single cable to it too and see what happens. If it works normally, maybe the Y splitter you're using is the problem?

In my original post, I mentioned the DT was humming which is an issue in itself. Maybe a short might be the incorrect word and should have just said issue. It works but I have to mess with it all too often to get rid of the hum which happens quite often.
I just disconnected the DT and the SVS hasn't had an issue since. It's the first time it's even kicked on in a few weeks. The green on/auto lights now stays on and it works perfectly.

A humming can indicate a few things.

If you disconnect all cables except AC cord....does the DT ever hum? If not, it could be an issue with the cable(s) connected to the DT OR the input jack being used. Try a different cable and input. If the DT still hums with nothing but the AC power connected...it is something internal and probably not user fixable.

Hey Tom
Since you've been so kind to converse with me, I figured I'd show you the respect by answering you from all your advice and to privy you on the outcome.
You we're spot on with everything.
The Y splitter was bad and I had a bad cable on the Def Tech. Both simple fixes and much less expensive then buying another sub.
Thanx for the chat, knowledge and advice. Much appreciated

Greg
