Default Polk users - Is this a good match and some newbie questions

I am pretty new to home theater and am using a Pioneer VSX-823 Receiver, Polk Audio PSW110 Sub, TSx150c Center, and just ordered RTI A1 for my L&R.

First really newbie question - since my sub has input/output for L&R speakers am I supposed to plug those into the sub, then to my receiver, or do I just directly go through the receiver?

Second - will these speakers "match" well together? I read about how you want them in the same family of speakers, but I am not sure exactly if they are.

Lastly, any tips on my eventual floorstanding speakers? I am going to eventually move the bookshelves to the back, and use the floorstanding as my front LR.

I am in a house with a fairly closed living room, carpet, and have room for the speakers.

So you're going to have a 3.1 setup for a while?? Not a bad setup while you work toward getting those towers.

Your first question about the sub....I'd definitely use the LFE in\RCA connection only so your receiver can do the crossover work and only send the needed frequencies to your sub. No speaker wire needed for those other connections.

As far as your speakers matching, both of those models have the "silk\polymer Dynamic Balance" tweeters so you're in good shape as far as timbre-matching. Not to mention, using the optimization\MCACC thing your receiver has built in will help lower any discrepancies between the two.

You've got a good thing going, man, so I say just connect the sub via RCA, run your optimization program, and enjoy it. Trust me, it could be WAY more mismatched or worse in quality.

I agree with Starkscream on everything to a point. I would only add that you should in the future get a Csia4,5,6 center, it will help with more clarity. And for your fronts go to the Rtia5,7,9 series speakers. They are the designed to go with the Rtia1s and will be timber matching for sure. If I'm incorrect please help with with anything I've said. i think I got it right. Like he said solid starting place for sure. And HEY, You need more movies LOL..

Thank you guys very much!
I am so excited to be finally started with my home theater setup! I decided to return my old center to best buy and am ordering a CSI A6 as you suggested. I am ordering the RITA 7s for my floor standing speakers. Should be here in time for next weekend

Thanks a bunch for the suggestions.

Congrats on your gear Blu Ray you've made an excellent choice to go with the A6 center and A7s. Looking forward to seeing the pics when they arrive. Any plans to add a amp to the setup it will take the load off your receiver? Plus, will bring out the best in your A7s and A6.

This may sound strange, but how do I add an amp to this setup, and which amp would work best for me? Will it stress out these A1's since I know they take less watts? They are going to be rear surrounds.

Thanks much!

Edit - Also speakers are arriving next Friday March 6th! I can't wait to get them. I found one on a sick discount since it was dropped and has a chip in the corner (which I am going to fix as I am a bit handy when it comes to woodworking). I will take lots of photos!

Great choices there blu!! You could get a 3channel amp to cover the 7s and the 6 no problem from somebody like Emotiva. Does your amp have pre-outs on it? Love to see those pics for sure also and good luck. Let us know how you like the sound. I hope that I can get my Rti12s soon. Gotta wait for that tax man LOL.

Just read the specs on your current receiver it doesn't not have pre-outs to run a external amp. How loud do you listen to your system is it at a moderate or loud level?

I've been listening to it at about 60%-70% of what it can do. It's plenty loud for my space. Perhaps an upgrade to the Receiver and an amp down the road? I am loving this setup even with just 3.1 already. Can't wait until my speakers get here next Thursday! I am watching a good movie. Any suggestions on a good action/comic/disney/horror film that would show off this 5.1 I am going to have?

Can't believe I have gotten this far :P

In your collection, new stuff always does the trick.
Tron: Legacy
District 9
Super 8
Pirates otc
etc...

make plans for a Good subwoofer, even if it takes another year.

I've been wanting to watch Tron again! I am going to start with that one.

What would be a GOOD sub? I have been thinking about saving up for that next

look into the audio sub forums, subwoofers.
there's a plethora of choices, and people way more knowledgeable in them.
It's not inexpensive, but for the right room conditions & thirst for the right sound.
It'd be well worth going quality, rather than upgrading every year to get it right.
ask around, audio Gurus love to chat about it.

learn from our mistakes.. buy a GOOOOOD sub ... even if it's outside your price range, start saving for it instead... you can get some really good subs with ID mfgs like SVS, HSU etc.. or if you wanna go nuts.. .DIY all the way

I am on my way to the sub forum! haha. Thanks guys!

Also, I got my (sorta) damaged speaker today! It was a new speaker, but damaged upon shipping (hit the corner a little hard it appears). I am fixing it up and will post photos when I am finished fixing it. It's amazing shape for only $149.00 (plus shipping).
Polk A7 -

The other one is coming next Thursday! Can't wait until next Thursday night to watch Tron!

Congrats on receiving your towers. That's quite a ding on the corner. When you carried the tower was anything like the crossover loose inside or anything?

I can't tell that anything is wrong at all with the speaker. It sounds very good. Nothing seems loose and I've been jamming it all day. My A1 on the right is having a hard time keeping up with this though

I am waiting for my other speaker to get here to crank it all the way up and see how it does. Anything else to look for? The crossover is good. I don't think this speaker was really used other than to test it out. Said it comes with manufacture warranty too (other than a ding of course).

I am not complaining, since they are about $500 on amazon and ebay. If anything I would be out $200 or so bucks.

One of the feet was busted in shipping though, and that is making me angry. I asked the seller to send me another or a partial refund. We will see what they say.

Very happy so far. My second one will be here next Thursday!

Master and commander is a beast for midbass, but don't do a sub test with it. it's got a 50hz High pass filter on the LFE... for audio... use "Gravity".... digs DEEEEP into the low teens LFE wise and has some incredible dynamics
