I don't recall the last time I ever opened up a Christmas present. All my relatives give me is an envelope with money in it.
Money was great when I was a teenager, but now that I'm grown up and work, I'd prefer that people give a gift that shows some sort of thought or effort. When people give me money, it's like telling me, "I'm too lazy to shop for you. Here, go buy what you want!" The whole spirit of gift giving on Christmas is the thought and effort put into the gift and the thrill of being surprised when you unwrap the gift. Just flopping money in an envelope destroys that. No surprise. No thrill. And no effort on the part of the gift giver. Anyone else feel the same way? |
