This trailer has been playing lately but it doesn't make the film look very good. I'll see it anyway but I don't have high expectations.

Yeah same. The teaser does nothing for me. I wish they could have come up with something better to attach to this fall's horror movies.

Night Swim is supposed to release in January 2024 in theaters? About a demon ghost in the swimming pools. I would think Summer would be ideal for this theme. Sort of like releasing a Christmas movie during summer wouldn't be great timing.

I saw a second trailer for this (prior to Silent Night) that actually makes the film look decent. Unfortunately, it also gives away a lot more scenes.

Some reviews are up. Sounds disappointingly tame.
"Sadly, it drowns across most of the board, resulting in a tepid scarer that doesn’t do justice to its intriguing premise and McGuire’s evident enthusiasm for the genre." - AU Review "For a film where the concept is that it’s about a pool that kills people, there’s barely any of it as it’s subdued by a PG-13 that holds back the film from having any real impact, especially with its deaths." - Next Best Picture "Night Swim‘s scares are modest at best, causing only minor ripples for those looking for a shocking horror fix." - Punch Drunk Critics |

My review:
Here we go. The first horror film of 2024, and it falls in line like most. Night Swim won't change the game up. It might be forgotten in a few months, but I have to give it its due. It's at least ambitious in its story, trying to keep the scares creative and unpredictable. It somewhat succeeds on that front. And there are a few genuine chills. The pool setting offers some nice atmosphere in the evening scenes. It keeps with the Blumhouse tradition. There's better. There's worse. Fair play January. Fair play. 3.2/5 |

Just got home from the press screening with my friend and well….i was whelmed. There is such a good premise here but they don’t really execute it well. The title of this is also stupid as hell. I get not calling it [Show spoiler] right out but give us something more clever.I do chuckle that when things start happening with the pool and the entity, Kerry Condon just jumps on her MacBook and with one Google search figures everything out. It was the most preposterous scene. I had so many questions. All these people have disappeared because of this pool but no one asks questions or figured anything out beforehand? This film could have been something good but they fumbled it. |

Three and a half stars
A idea of a haunted swimming pool does not quite exude the same sense of unnerving menace as that of a haunted house. After all, if people realize that a swimming pool is haunted, then they can simply decide not to swim in it. The challenge faced by the 2024 horror feature, Night Swim, written and directed by Bryce McGuire as a feature-length expansion of his 2014 short film of the same name, is that, in order to be remotely watchable over the course of its 98 minutes, it must depict the evil entity taking its time to sink its (pool) hooks into its unsuspecting new owners so that they do not avoid it altogether or fill it in with dirt right from the get-go. Thankfully, after a chilling opening sequence, the primary narrative gets underway by acquainting us with the main characters, Ray and Eve, a married couple played by Wyatt Russell and Kerry Condon, in a leisurely fashion as they come to terms with the fact that Ray's professional baseball career is coming to a close after he has been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis and as they decide to move to a new house with their two children. The backyard pool initially seems like a dream come true, because Ray's water therapy results in a notable improvement in his symptoms, even reversing some of the brain lesions. Eve and the children are somewhat less charmed, especially after a few swimming experiences that have them trying to convince themselves that their eyes and ears are playing tricks on them, but they are reluctant to voice their uneasiness out of consideration for the father's plight. Night Swim blatantly rips off Stephen King stories much of the time, particularly during a sequence where the youngest child reaches into one of the pool skimmers to retrieve a lost toy. I give a pass to the derivative aspects, though, because I do love the visuals when unfortunate characters go underwater only to realize that they are so deep that the surface of the pool appears as a tiny lighted rectangle far above them. Viewers of previous films released by Blumhouse Productions will walk into this one with a good idea of what to expect. Night Swim is a middling affair as a scary tale, but it still entertains in the sense that horror movies are like pizza, because even the bad ones are pretty good. If, like me, you have a soft spot for throwaway cinema that is offloaded into theaters during January of each year, then I recommend that you jump right in instead of just dipping one toe into the water.
