Default Why Does it Take So Long For My Sony BDP-S300 to Turn on?

I just bought this machine and it takes so long to power up. Is this normal? Also - it has frozen on PLANET EARTH twice. Should I return and get a better player?

Maybe not a better player but one that isn't broken...

Check your Planet Earth discs first. There really shouldn't be any problem with them since they are scratch resistant. Then return your current unit for replacement. If the next one continues to do the same things, you might want to move up in quality.

The PS3 that I have only takes a second or two to boot up. The worst thing about it is that it runs hot and shouldn't be in a video cabinet. Maybe that's the problem with your player?

Good luck and don't give up!

it has been discussed many times about the slow load times of standalones. I think that is where our technology lacks the most.

Try a firmware update. If that doesnt work, you might have a faulty Planet Earth disc. Return it for another copy and try it again. Keep trying! this is a set that you MUST have!

If you are still within your return period, I would return the S300 and get either the new 40GB PS3 or the Panasonic DMP-BD30. Both are very fast and reliable.

Standalone High def players generally boot up slow. Although, I am guessing the Sony's are the slowest. My Samsung bdp-1000 was slightly faster than my Sony in boot up time, but the sony is faster/better at all other functions.

The ps3 is by far the fastest/best BD value overall out there.

Sharp apparently has a fast BD player, as is the new Panasonic bd30.

I have owned my s300 since July and it hasn't skipped or fouled on any discs includng Planet Earth.

You may have a defective unit. Do you have the latest Firmware?

This happened to my best friend. He returned the machine to BB, they gave him a new one, and he hasn't had a problem since. Some are just funky right out of the box.

I have had a rare time or two when my machine freezes on a disk. I unplug it, and plug it back in, and it works fine, picking right up where the disk froze and continues as if nothing went wrong.

As for the slow startup, that appears to be normal. The machine is slow and methodical. You can't be in too big of a hurry. I usually turn it on, do something else, return and open the drawer and insert the disk. It's got a lot more to process than a regular DVD player. Patience is a virtue with these players.

The first time you boot the player, or the first after you install a FW update takes a couple of minutes to boot. After that, the boot time should not take that long. However, if it is a BD-Java disc, it takes forever to load. I recently purchased the new Panasonic and I am extremely happy with boot and load times. I think you might be happier with the new Panny.

Ditto and Ditto. After the 3.20 patch, it should be fully warmed up in 45 seconds. Small price to pay for the benefit of fit in my entertainment system.

I had a faulty Planet Earth set as well. Does it lock up on the first disc as the words "2-Entertain" comes up, but the others work? If so, you have the copy I exchanged from Amazon.

Sort of on related lines, I just installed FW v. 2.5 to my Sony BDP-S1, and put in the new Pixar Short Films BD. A "loading...loading...loading" crawlbar appeared on screen, which must have taken 3 or 4 minutes, then disappeared and nothing happened for another couple of minutes. Anyhone else experienced that with the Pixar disc?
