Default Beowulf in 3-D

I know Paramount is four letter word for Blu-ray fans around the world, but I just finished screening Beowulf in digital 3-D to ensure a quality performance for our sneak preview tonight at 10:00, and all I can say is WOW.

The 3-D effects are spectacular and really hold your eyes to the screen. We ran the film in a 2048 x 804 if I remember correctly. This is a downscaled version of the film presented this way in order for our digital projectors to keep up with the refresh rate for 3-D.

The dialogue and parts of the story leave a little to be desired, but the 3-D does wonders to hold your attention. The scenes at the end with the dragon are especially noteworthy as are certain closeups, i.e. facial fuzz on Robin Wright Penn's character.

Oh, yeah. And Angelina is naked.

Some of the character movement is a little rough at times and lip movement still needs some work. But overall, I left wanting more. Much more. If you decide to give this film a chance, I know you will feel the same. For those who have no choice but to watch it in 2-D, I would wait for the rental. The 3-D is really what will sell this film this weekend.

That's my time. Later.

Yay 3D!

If it wasn't 3D, I would not be seeing it.

Gonna see it in Imax 3D.

It's going to play at the local theatre (Niagara Square) in 3-D starting tomorrow. I'm thinking of seeing it on Sunday.

I will be seeing it in digital 3D tomorrow (I prefer it to IMAX 3D from what I've seen before) and I've also heard it is quite incredible. For videophiles who care about being able to see the most incredible looking stuff out there, it seems like this is something they shouldn't miss. I don't think it hurts for people to see Paramount movies in the theater. For those who are trying not to help HD DVD it probably would make it easier to hold out on an HD DVD version anyway (although in this case it looks like people might be able to import it on Blu-ray).

Funnily enough I was in my local HMV yesterday.
They still don't have a great selection (double the shelf space as HD DVD though)
Their prices are all over the place......€54.99 for bare-bones Usual Suspects.
I did pick up Ghost Rider for €19.99, it'll probably be pretty shite, but at least it will look and sound good, LOL!!

I just saw this last night... it was AWESOME!
The 3d was just right! Not too subtle, not too intense. Too many films have the 3D stick out of the image too much to make it look like it is on the seat in front of you, i HATE that cause it hurts my eyes, This had some cool 3D effects, but never enough to give you a headache.
Yes yes, she is "naked", but so is Beowulf during the first big fight scene.
If anything, the nudity is well balanced for both sides, but also tasteful. It is not explicit, and is really nothing. Get over it guys.
I sure hope I can see this on Blu-ray someday, especially on Blu-ray in 3D! That would ROCK!

No theater with 3-D around me, so I am out of luck on that. I think a lot of Families are going to be turned off with all of the nudity and violence. I heard this was pretty bloody for a PG-13 rated movie. It might do well, but I don't think it is going to have the draw of BEE Movie.

I just got back from seeing beowulf. and I have to say I was let down quite a bit. sure 90% of the movie is great but there are a few things that bugged me. grendel's voice and shriek were more comical than anything, I had a very different imagining of his voice.

the cgi is great, except for a few things. the eyes. when a character was looking at the camera their head straight up everything was fine. but if their head was tilted to the side the eyes appeared missplaced. also the horses were horrible. whenever a horse was running with a character riding it it almost looked south parkien. the bouncy jumpy movements were far from realistic.

also the whole hiding his (koookooo boing sound) seemed way to comical. ruining a pivitol scene for me at least.

still good. still worth seeing, but maybe not in the theater. if it was live action 3D I would have been very happy.
