This film has to be seen in cinemas.. it's surreal but at the same time believable.. I'll be waiting for the Blu-ray, considering all the scenic beauty this will be reference quality.

Watched it a couple weeks ago at a free screening. Wildly uneven and very clunky, possibly studio interruption is the cause, but you can't help but feel Ben Stiller put a whole lot of effort into something that feels so minor.

It was cut for the UK theatrical release. Fox were offered an uncut 12 rating, but wanted a PG. Le sigh.

Surprising no one has thought to release the 1947 original on BD. (it holds up pretty well)

I'm not sure it was cut in the UK, as much as cut period and released worldwide as the UK PG version.

The film was seen for advice prior to release, and that mentions "sight of naked female pin-up pictures" that contributed to the 12A suggestion. The US PG rating is for "some crude comments, language and action violence". I find it hard to believe that the US would allow naked pictures in a PG movie, where the UK would not.

That's probably more the truth of the matter.

It was cut for the UK

From the BBFC site:
Quote:
Precuts information
During post-production, the distributor sought and was given advice on how to secure the desired classification. Following this advice, certain changes were made prior to submission

Note: The following text may contain spoilers
[Show spoiler]
This work was originally seen for advice. The company was advised that the film was likely to receive a 12A rating but that their preferred PG rating could be achieved by making limited changes, including to remove sight of naked female pin-up pictures and to reduce violent threat in a fight scene. When an edited version of the film was submitted for formal classification, these scenes had been addressed and the film was consequently rated PG.

Yes, we're aware of that. However, as McCrutchy pointed out, these can sometimes provide the basis for other countries.

Rubbish like violent threat is only something the BBFC would get worried about. I can't see that being a problem at PG in the US. The naked pictures being in shot is another matter and could well cause issue in not just the US but also other countries, so may well have been edited out.

I got the Italian disc, and as I recall, I don't remember any scene showing a naked female pin-up picture, so I'm wondering if it was cut from all versions of the film, or that the Italian disc is going to be the same as the UK disc.

If anyone has the US version, or saw it in cinemas outside the UK, was there such an image?

By the way, as for the fight scene, if you thought the version in the film was crazy, just wait until you see the extended animatic version.

I have imported the US version but will take another 2 to 3 weeks to arrive from Amazon.

I have the US Import, I can't be certain but I don't recall seeing a scene like that.

Any idea at which point in the film it's meant to be, I'll take a look.

If it really is true that all versions are cut, I'll be very disappointed. In 2014 this shouldn't be happening.
