Expired Digital Copies... - Blu-ray Forum

That's right, a lot of 'em expire! I was going through my DVD/Blu collection to see what I had for digital copies and noticed that so far American Gangster has expired(says July 31st '08). Live Free or Die Hard is up on Dec. 1st '08. I left my mini list at home, only had 3 other titles - Juno, Family Guy: Blue Harvest & Rambo, so not sure on their dates.

I doubt that American Gangster expired before it was even released. Are you sure it doesn't say '09?

thats stupid, i didnt even notice they expire. the only one i have is juno, so its not a HUGE deal to me, but that seems like a pointless thing to do if they expire a few months after purchase, where do you look to find the dates? and what about people who buy the movie after the digital copy is already expired?

The dates are usually in the fine print on the slip of paper with the redemption code. Once the expiration date has passed, the disc is essentially useless and you can throw it away.

Stupid system if you ask me - why not create JUST the redemption code so you can download the digital copy (with no expiration) and eliminate the need for a wasted disc?

that would be like buying the James Bond Blu-rays after Quantum of Solace is no longer in theatres and yet have that sticker for the free E-Cash for 1 ticket to see Quantum of Solace(similar situation but not about digital downloads)

Oh, this is good. I am just see people buying these movies down the road after they've been sitting on a shelf for a while and them coming with a digital copy that has already expired. What a great plan.

Its indeed verrrrry stupid! Why doing that!?!? So you have to buy another copie of the movie to have the digital copy?

That wouldn't work either, unless its a newer relase of the movie.

I havent tried this out yet, can you only put the Digital Copy on one system or can you transfer it multiple times with one code?

I am confused

What do you mean by expire? If i have it loaded on my computer it will stop playing after a certain date? Or i have until expiration date to load it?

I beleive its only if you haven't used it....you should be fine since you already uploaded it...it will still work even after your exp date...

Remember, if you have a computer issue, and it asks for the code when you go to play it again... the code may fail because you have already used it!

Speed Racer did this to me.

Yeah that is what will happen! Digital copy was an easy and legal way to have the movie we already bought to our portable player. But we all know that there is other ways...

so i have 2 computers that are authorized to use my itunes, could i backup one copy and save it on the second computer and be able to play it? Or is it just on the computer that the coupon was redeemed?

They may have expiration dates, but can anyone confirm they truly expire? I would think this'd be a good question for The Digital Bits folks.

They may just have it on there in case they decide to quit offering them at a later date.
