Is this true? I have noticed that games dont look anywhere near as impressive as some of the Disney Pixar movies I watch. My friend just got a Vizio LCD and every time he comes over to play PS3 he goes on and on about how the game were playing looks better on his TV (he has an Xbox 360 if that has anything to do with it). He does admit movies look better on mine, but then agian he doesnt have a Blu-ray player. Is it true that games look better on LCDs for some reason?

In theory games should look better on LCD televisions. Companies like Sony and Samsung design their LCD's with video gamers in mind. Movies are suppose to look better on a plasma though, cause of the quicker motion capability. I usually tell customers that play a lot of video games to go with an LCD. A Vizio is nice, and looks great, but they are not designed with video gaming in mind, so if you have a plasma made by a known company (Panasonic), chances are your TV might be better for both.
Sometimes I think it might be something with the contrast ratio on an LCD, they are a bit brighter, so maybe that makes it look better? While a plasma makes your reds look a lot more vivid, making people and other things look better. |

LCDs tend to do better with slow moving bright images. Video games are pretty slow (the background may move a lot, but the foreground has very little movement). Plasmas tend to do better with fast moving, dark images, like movies. Either way, plasmas display a more accurate color palate than LCDs. Plus, if you think that the games look good on your set, then they do. Don't let your friend dictate what YOU like. He might be just trying to get your dander up.

Umm, ya... Video games tend to be slow moving images... No, not quite true at all. LCD has some really nasty effects going on for gaming, largely because of the pixel drop-date. Going to be a pain getitng me to migrate my PC monitor to LCD because of the difference in quality. You need to get fairly high end panel to get a good response time [and, of course, figure out how they measured the stupid response time in the first place]. I don't really know about plasma to be honest, since it never really hit the hobbyist computer field. |
