Default BDP-S1 to offer multiple Video Codec's

Sony finally put on the dealer website the "key technologies" that will be on the BDP-S1 when it is released in October. You can interpret just what this means, and I'll type it just as it is written:

Video Codec Format: MPEG2/MPEG-4-AVC/VC-1

Does this mean the player is capable of all the Codec's ? There was not any mention or statement if the HDMI is the 1.3 Standard or not. More to follow as I get it. Was this helpful ?

Good!

By all rights, I'd be shocked if we saw any player for either format NOT be able to support all the codecs.

Blu-ray spec requires all players to be compatible with MPEG2, AVC, and VC-1 codecs. They all must be able to handle video delivered in any of those three formats. This includes the Samsung as well as PS3, Panny, LG, Pioneer, etc. players yet to come out.

Default ...Needs encoder...

If your video content is not already .mpg (it is and .avi or .mjpg etc.) you will need an authoring application (at simplest) to encode each asset it before putting on your disc. The first inexpensive/bundled example is now shipping as discussed here:
