USA Brainscan (1994) / Mindwarp (1992) - June 4, 2019

Quote:
SCI-FI Double Feature

MINDWARP

In the future, life will be a dream. And reality a nightmare.

In a post-holocaust world, one woman (Marta Alicia) relies on computer fantasies to entertain herself, but a glitch sends her to a far-off wasteland to deal with monsters called Crawlers. She is saved by a young rebel (Bruce Campbell), but the pair are later captured and brought underground by the Crawlers. There, an overlord called the Seer (Angus Scrimm) presides over the kingdom and tries to make life miserable for his captives.

“A post-apocalyptic gore-fest funded by Fangoria magazine…eye-gouging, blood-spurting nastiness.” – Time Out London

BRAINSCAN

An interactive trip to hell.

When a lonely teenager (Edward Furlong) orders the latest interactive video game, the high-tech wizardry penetrates his subconscious, where his darkest impulses lead him through a deadly maze of murder, deception and desire. Pursued by homicide detective (Frank Langella) and prodded by the trickster (T. Ryder Smith), he is torn between the worlds of good and evil, of reality and fantasy and, ultimately, life and death.

“a solid ‘90s tech-horror film." – Anthony Arrigo, Dread Central

Starring: Bruce Campbell, Angus Scrimm, Edward Furlong, Frank Langella

Yep, but it's not the first time that Shout! and Mill Creek released the same title. Last year both of them released Strait Jacket. It seems Sony doesn't mind sharing its bed with multiple labels.

Oh snap, I just posted about this in the Brainscan thread haha. Interesting how two labels can get the same film like this. I would think contracts would allow exclusivity.

If that's the case then I hope Shout will do some of the Hammer titles MC released, among a few others. Maybe we could get our own Anaconda collection.

I already have TT's release of Mindwarp and I'll pick up Shout's release of Brainscan eventually. No need for this release.

Mindwarp also seems like the kind of thing that Shout! would do a Collector's Edition of, or at least one with some extras. I'm at least glad it's back in print for those that missed the TT release, though that one is still reasonably priced on Amazon right now.

I'd rather have the two Sony Fangoria titles not on blu-ray (Children Of The Night and Severed Ties).

Already own both of these on blu-ray, so pass.

Mill Creek also released the Charles Bronson 4-pack even though Twilight Time still have a 3-year exclusivity window on some of the movies. I think there must be a loophole that Mill Creek can release them as part of multi-film packs.

Shout may have had a short limited window after acquiring the license. But it wouldn't surprise me if these eventually find their way as individual releases from another label in the future.

Yeah i may pick it for that aswell.

I like Brainscan for the 90's cheese but haven't felt motivated to pay $20 for the SF release.

Maybe with all of these new titles coming out, we will finally get all of the Sony choice collection BD-R titles. Unfortunately, I own both of these titles from the previous release although, I got relatively good deals.

Sucks for those who paid scalper prices for Mindwarp, only to see it now getting bundled in a far cheaper rerelease with another title that had recently been put out by SF. It's a good thing I had other things i my mind that made me held off until cheaper releases came along, though I was extremely close to pulling the trigger on Brainscan. I may get this twofer just for the latter as Screams disc is kinda pricey considering it's mediocre supplements and older HD master.

I imagine the transfers in this set for both films will be the exact same sources as what was on the TT and SF discs, only opened up to 1.78 and ether with MPEG-4 encodes & PCM stereo, or MPEG-2 w lossy DD.

It would be so hilarious, but unsurprising if Mill Creek also has a future BD twofer in the cards with TCM: The Next Generation (which Scream has put out with decent extras and both cuts) and something like John Carpenter's Vampires (which TT had put out and commanded exorbitant prices) or another 90s horror flick.

lol I bought the Twilight Time blu of Mindwarp for what this double feature's MSRP is worth.

EDIT: Actually, the TT blu of Mindwarp is the cheapest OOP Twilight Time blu out there.

Me too, so I'm cool with this. Wanted to grab Brainscan anyway, but had no desire to pay Shout! prices for it.

Blind bought Brainscan from SF & I'm glad I did as I enjoyed it.
I purchased some DVDs by Mill Creek in the past & they were such terrible quality that I dismissed them outright when it comes to BD buying.

Yeah, if the PQ is fine (we'll see) I've been interested in seeing both of these.
