Absolutely can't wait to own the entire series in blu. How absurdly expensive do you think it's going to be when it finally drops?

I wish they had gone the same route that Universal went with BSG and just offered the complete series on BD to begin with and then sold individual seasons later....I would have upgraded in that scenario....instead, I'm going to have to wait while they go back through each season from the beginning with separate releases before a complete series set is made available....I already bought each season individually the first time as they came out on DVD, and as The Who says: "I won't get fooled again!"

The US DVD release was very fancy and expensive, I seem to recall. The UK one is nice enough and like less than $100 equivalent. I've only seen the first two seasons a while ago so I don't think I'd mind waiting, but there isn't even a blu release date for season 2 yet is there? If things are moving this slowly in about 6 months I'll probably buy the UK DVD and upgrade to blu when it's out as a complete set - I much prefer waiting until TV series are finished and getting a whole boxset and watching them online/on TV when they're on, to getting them individually. I doubt it'll be too expensive when its out as a complete set, maybe not much more than BSG?
I'm right in saying that BSG was filmed in HD whereas Sopranos wasn't (at least at first) aren't I? This could explain why BSG came out in a complete set - it didn't take as long to do the transfer? |

HBO waits a long damn time for Blu-Ray releases. They'll come, just not anytime soon. I think we may see season 2 and possibly 3 around Q4 of this year, like they did with season 1 last year. If we get lucky maybe they'll just release them all at once, but I doubt it.

Can anybody explain why HBO would release the first and last seasons on Blu-ray but not the others?
Actually, I'd also be curious about why any organization would delay Blu-ray for any movie or show that would sell. Is it that expensive to make a top-quality transfer from the masters? Does it allow pirates to get a higher quality bootleg? Are they waiting for the technology to mature enough that they don't have to redo everything a couple years from now? |
