Default Which kind of player causes less disc wear and tear

A tray based one, or one you feed the disc into like a PS3?

A tray one because you don't touch the media as much, because you hold it by the edges, whereas a slot loader you will be holding it two finger until it grabs the disc after being inserted almost to the hilt.

In the past some people would carelessly feed discs into a slot loader at a slight angle and would put stratches on the disc as its being inserted, that or the physical opening was too narrow and also cause that issue.* With a tray loader that is never a issue.

* Talking about slot loaders in general not PS3.

I've never seen a slot loader conventional blu-ray player, for home use.

I have my index finger positioned over the centre hole and my middle finger and thumb holding the edges. I guide it into the slot and once I feel it's secure I release my index and middle fingers and push the disc into the slot with my thumb. No fingerprints required.

I just don't see most BD player vendors using slot loaders for reliability concerns, if we step away from user handling of physical media.

All or most of car CD/DVD receivers have a slot loader like my Kenwood receiver. My CDs/DVDs don't get wear and tear from loading into the slot.

I remember people printed instructions on how to handle CDs in the old days...

People apparently still need these instructions. There are complaints on the web of discs not playing due to scratches/fingerprints and I know this personally from loaning discs to friends.
