Teen Girl Accuses School Of ‘Shaming Girls For Their Bodies’ After Being Sent Home For Wearing Shorts

http://thinkprogress.org/health/2014...-their-bodies/

Someone I know on Facebook posted this article and I just had to share it here. I can't wrap my head on why these girls don't understand why they need to cover up. When girls wear clothes that are too revealing, especially shorts that expose your butt cheeks, do they really expect guys to just "learn to treat women better and look at them in a different light?" How ludicrous!! Men are attracted to women, plain and simple. If we weren't, the human race would be extinct. I don't think asking women to wear clothing that isn't too revealing is too much to ask. But whatever.

I look at it this way... if they want guys to look at them with respect, then dress respectably!!

What about guys that wear their pants around their ankles? When in middle school, there was this one guy, you could constantly see his underwear.

You are, of course, absolutely right.

There was a campaign on Twitter the other day - encouraged by some female celebrities - to encourage female public nudity! Seriously! Then they'd be complaining that men were looking at them and shrieking "Oppression!" or "Eye rape!"

A lot of young women are out of their tiny minds these days, and the media seems to encourage them to be so, while denigrating, demonizing and shaming men for being men at every juncture. Nuts, the lot of 'em!

This news story is really no big deal, and these things go on at every high school in the country on a near-daily basis. The girl was disciplined for breaking the rules that every other student has to follow, and she is frustrated at the logic of the rules. This happened when I was in high school in the 1980s, and it still happens today all over the place.

This story has somehow gone viral, though, because of a sensationalist headline and because of the nature of viral information in general.

My advice for happiness is to ignore these "click bait" news stories and quizzes that go viral on Facebook.

A few months ago, I started hiding all of these "click bait" sites from my own Facebook news feed. Goodbye to sites like ThinkProgress, The Huffington Post, Buzzfeed, MentalFloss, Upworthy, Petflow, Bitecharge, Bitstrips, Gizmodo, etc.

I got sick of seeing this stuff on my Facebook every day...
- "Boy with cancer finds stray dog on the street, but what happens next will amaze you!"
- "Which Harry Potter character are you?"
- "Nine out of 10 Americans are completely wrong about this scientific fact!"

I've hidden most of the bad sites by clicking on the upper right hand corner of the posts on Facebook each time I see one of those viral news stories or quizzes. My Facebook experience is so much better now, because my news feed is not as cluttered, and I'm reading actual status updates from actual people...and reading actual status updates from actual people is why I joined Facebook in the first place several years ago.

A lot of the articles and stories that we see on our Facebook news feeds can trigger our emotions and even get our blood boiling. What many people do not realize is that these viral sites are specifically tailored to trigger an emotional knee-jerk response with people so that more and more people will click on the site. It's best just to stick with reputable news sources for information, instead of reading the "click bait" stories like these.

I apologize if my post here seems smug, because I do not want to single out the original poster. There's probably nothing outright disingenuous about the above news article, but it's just not really a groundbreaking news event that needs to go viral on the web. I've seen this story posted by others on my Facebook news feed, but there's probably more than meets the eye with this particular story, just as there is with most other viral stories that flourish on Facebook.

Okay, now that I'm off my soapbox...

How do I feel about this particular news story at face value?

Students were not allowed to wear shorts at my high school during the late 1980s. We all hated the rule back then, and we all tried to rebel against it like the girl in the above story apparently did.

Rules are rules, though. Ultimately, we were all just thankful that we did not have to wear specific school uniforms.

No, I agree. I only ever use Facebook for a few specific groups, I never look at anything else. The media is just saturated with nonsense guaranteed to make your head explode these days.

What really bugs me is the fact that these girls are using the excuse that they're warm so they have the right to be "comfortable" without having to worry about some creepy guy ogling at them. I mean, come on! There are ways to keep cool without attracting attention. But the way some girls dress, it's like they're asking for it. There are even some that have tattoos and piercings in very shocking places to even further attract attention. And then they wonder why guys look??? Even my mom understands the stupidity of the way some girls dress and she's a woman. So, if she has the common sense, why not these other girls?

I stick with Reuters, that is about as real as you can get news wise.

It was some girl on Facebook that posted this. She and her friend are posting comments on her page saying that they believe in this article 100%. I joined in the discussion to try to reason with them, but no luck. They're really clueless. I was telling them that shorts are fine, but when it becomes too short, you're asking for attention. And they they're like, "well how short is too short?" I'm like, really? Do these girls have no common sense at all???

That is the problem, the younger generation think that Facebook is a news source. It is far from news, more like tabloid.

I really hope you're never on the jury in a rape case.

I have no opinion on the story. They're high school kids and I'm far too old to be looking at girls that age or aware of how they dress.

There has already been at least one thread about women closed on this forum because people were too immature to handle discussing the topic in an intelligent and civil manner. I'd hope the mods would afford us the same courtesy twice and close this one as well. It's just not a subject that some people on this forum can handle without saying incredibly stupid things.

Here is a good example of what I was talking about. Saying women have "tiny minds" and then attempting to shift the discussion to a men vs. women: who has it worse? debate that is 100% guaranteed never to end well.

I don't even want to imagine what this forum would look like if even 1% of every stupid click-bait article on Facebook was given its own thread.
