Sony Scares Up 'Monster House' on Blu-ray

Blu-ray fans can expect a scary treat in their candy bags come Halloween, when Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will unleash the $75 million-grossing hit 'Monster House.'

Though no technical specs or supplemental details are yet available, Sony will issue a full announcement in the coming days for the title, which will hit stores day-and-date with the standard DVD release on October 24.

The release of 'Monster House' on Blu-ray is also exciting as it will mark the first time a full-length, wholly computer-generated feature film will make its way to a next-gen format. Needless to say, we're certainly looking forward to seeing how an all-CGI feature looks in high-def.

The movie was real good. Took my 3 boys and they loved it.

Agreed. I saw it in 3D and it was sufficiently engrossing that the 3D aspect was less of a deal in a very short time (though it was cool - heh).

Never saw or heard of the movie, but it sounds cool, so I will probably pick it up along with Reservoir Dogs to watch on the BDP-S1.

It was produced by Steven Spielberg and Robert Zemickis. I thought it had an E.T. vibe while watching it--humor, dialogue, etc.

I saw it in 3D too. It was pretty cool. It will be interesting to see how the new 3D being used in theaters translates into non-animation movies. I have heard George is planning on re-releasing some SW movies in 3D.

Sony has also unveiled the full specs today for the CGI family smash 'Monster House,' which as previously announced is also due to hit Blu-ray day-and-date with DVD on October 24.

In addition to a 2.40:1 transfer in 1080p/MPEG-2 video plus an uncompressed PCM 5.1 surround track, extras will replicate the standard DVD release, including six making-of featurettes, a filmmaker commentary, multi-angle scene deconstruction and a photo gallery.

Hmm, interesting. Does anyone know if Monster House will be a 50GB release?

I seem to remember it wasn't a super long movie so my guess is that it'll be a BD25 release but I could be wrong. I bet it looks very good though. I can't wait for Toy Story, Finding Nemo, etc.
