Of all you Sony BDP-S1 owners or former owners, is there any reason to scrap it for a newer BD player? How does it rank with some of the newer/cheaper models? Is it still the cream of the crop? I have had nothing but success with mine to date, thanks to the firmware updates. Will Sony continue to support our players with firmware updates as the years go by? I would rather put my money into a new 1080p television than a new BD player, but I value the opinions of those on this forum, so please give me some insight. Thanks.

In your opinion, how does it compare to the PS3? When strictly talking blu-ray playback and upconverting dvds, which has the upper hand? Thanks.

I don't have a BDPS-1 but i've played around with them alot (and own it's baby brother the BDP-s300)
Upscaling & PQ, and the Benefit of IR remote and Multichannel output give benefits to the BDP-S1 Everything else: PS3. The ps3 loads faster, is a far better value, can do more and is so powerful it can do just about anything through software. |

I don't have any complaints. I loaded the latest firmware update (3.10) before watching Cars, and the load-time was really decent, and all the interactive features and extras played without a problem.
I say as long as they're offering support for it, no need to purchase a newer model, unless you're in the market for a second player. If it works, plays the movies, and Sony continues to support it with firmware updates, why spend the money? Heck, just buy more titles, it will be a far better move in ending this silly war, and you'll have more to show for your money. |
