They're all Blu-ray... You mean "it includes the 2D version as well", right?

Nice. It bothered me the Steelbook extended of first one was 3D-only.

I wonder if it will be region-free. If someone could update the thread when that information comes to light, that would be helpful. Thanks.

So if all goes according to history, this will be the Best Buy version too. Hopefully that's the case.

This one is being printed specifically for Canada, so it's unlikely Best Buy will have it, but don't rule it out

Yes, I hope so, fingers crossed, but the US is probably just getting the steel from Target if I had to guess.

I love the art on this one, not the fact it's a jumbo, but it's still better than the Target steel imo.

How is it a better steel if they are the same except for 2D to 3D?

They aren't the same, or at least the pics aren't in the threads you created.

Target 3-disc 2D only steel:
[Show spoiler]

FS 5-disc 3D jumbo steel
[Show spoiler]

I'm very confused now.

Smaug is different but to me, they are the same except for the 2D and 3D. Either way it's a money grabber because, if someone wants the 3D they will go for it.

Except that Jumbo Steels are a turnoff for some... so they can't go for it just for the 3D

So now we have a US Slim 3D version for the first film and a Jumbo 3D version for the 2nd... Good job haha

Why did you say they were the same then?

You made me think I was going crazy for a second there.

They're about as different as can be. Different art, different content, different sized steelbook. Oh well, I'll more than likely just grab the regular amaray 3D EE to match the first one. I never did pick up the BBY steel because it was only a 3D disc.

The biggest draw for the FS one for me is that Smaug is on the front, while he is on the back in the Target version.

I really wanted a version with him on the front, so jumbo or not, I'm happiest with the FS version.

That's not the 3D version though...unless they're really skipping out on the SB with this release.

So far they only show what looks to be the standard 3D release:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/hobbit-t...maug&lp=2&cp=1

Hoping they'll have a SB like the rest of the extended releases.

Yes, I know, and most of the US Exclusives announced for the rest of the year do not include 3D.
