Troma Films will be releasing the long-awaited Blu-ray release of Surf Nazis Must Die (1987) on February 8th, 2022. No word on extras yet, but will update when they're posted.

An earthquake leaves the California coastline in ruins and reduces the beaches to a state of chaos. A group of neo-Nazis led by Adolf (Brenner), the self-proclaimed "Führer of the new beach", takes advantage of the resulting chaos by fighting off several rival surfer gangs to seize control of the beaches. Meanwhile, an African American oil well worker named Leroy (Harden) is killed by the surf Nazis while jogging on the beach. Leroy's mother, "Mama" Washington (Neely), devastated by the loss of her son, vows revenge. After arming herself with a handgun and grenades, she breaks out of her retirement home and exacts vengeance on the Surf Nazis.

Probably so. I bought the 88 release back in 2018 when it first came out. Region free, newer 2K scan/restoration, uncompressed audio, optional subtitles, bonus features, etc..

Unless the Troma release has newer bonus features or something, I really doubt it will offer anything new.

It's the same transfer, though the compression may be different.

The 88 films release is the wrong aspect ratio and will be cropped slightly as such. I have the 88 release and kept my arrow dvd for that reason

Scrap that. I mean thr 88 bluray heavily cropped! Think I'll ditch my 88 bluray and just keep the Arrow dvd which will probably be the same transfer as the troma dvd. The dvd looks good enough to me for this kind of movie. In fact the colour looks better on the dvd

It's not cropped, it's presenting the film in its original matted 1.85:1 theatrical format.

I ordered the 88 Films blu earlier this morning because Troma is really bad at encoding blu-rays.

plus you know damn well the Troma disc will have the same master as the 88 Films disc except with a worse presentation.

Why does this site list the original aspect ratio as 1:33:1 against every release of this movie?

I was informed that aspect ratio's are not allowed to be updated on pre-release titles and that once the film has been released the website will automatically update to the correct ratio. I would imagine that this is a case of initial information being pulled from the previous dvd release upon addition to the database and that it will be corrected within the next week or two.

It's been like this on the 88 films listing ever since it came out a few years back now.
