Remember that the DVD images are blown up so you can compare them, the DVDs are a lower resolution.

Pretty accurate, actually. If you could flip A-B as quickly and smoothly on your TV/projector, you'd see a similar difference.

Yep. About the only site I trust when it comes to caps other than my own.

Caps-a-holic is useful to me, but only as one of many sources.

When I'm evaluating whether or not to pull the trigger on any given Blu-ray, I read the official review on this site, I read the user reviews on this site, I read the review on DVDTalk, I read the DVDBeaver review, I read the Home Theater Forum review, I read DVDSavant's take, I read High Def Digest, and I check Caps-a-holic. To a lesser extent, I'll read The A.V. Club, Slant Magazine, and other sites.

I may not obsessively read every word of every review, but I make sure to do my homework and get a well-balanced take on a title.

one argument against the site that i laugh at is the 'dvd caps are scaled beyond their actual resolution, so it's unfair'. this argument implies that you should be comparing a 1920x1080 image to a 720x480 image. if that were the case, they'd look pretty similar, and we all know they don't, because we don't view our DVDs and BDs on different screen sizes. why don't they just take a 230x480 VHS image barely bigger than a forum avatar or add banner and argue it looks good.

The majority of people are going to be watching DVD's on a 1080p display anyway, which in any case, upscaling is going to happen, unless you want the image surrounded by black bars (windowboxed) to get 1:1 pixel mapping.

Edit. Sorry, should have actually read your post.

And more importantly how bad some BDs look compared to other BDs of the same title.
