Without even getting into just how completely useless the E3 app was on the PlayStation (and it WAS terrible. Couldn't get the live presser to stream. Couldn't get any of the videos to play through it, etc), Sony overall did a lousy ass job of E3 coverage through the PS4. Compared to the competition, MS' E3 coverage through Xbox One was fantastic! They kept it up to date, they made their entire conference viewable through X1 shortly after it was over, (hell I STILL can't find Sony's conference on PSN), they provided tons of game trailers in full screen 1080p (Sony has at least half the number of E3 game trailers on PSN and for whatever reason we are forced to watch them in tiny viewing windows instead of full screen), plus overall it just seems like Microsoft was more eager to build excitement around E3 for their fans.
Hey Sony, I understand that you want to present the PlayStation 4 as a gaming system first and foremost but you can't continue to ignore multimedia apps and services and pretend like they're not important. While there are many multimedia apps and services that I don't really care about, When it comes to such an important GAMING event such as E3, I expect you to treat it as such and not like a complete afterthought. It's pretty sad that while I intended to buy games like Destiny and Farcry 4, and GTAV on PS4, I have to constantly be switching back over to my Xbox One to find proper coverage on those games because you cannot seem to be bothered to put up a decent full-screen 1080P E3 trailer on any of them! Normally I'm very happy with Playstation products and services but in this case Sony, when it came to E3 coverage you completely shit the bed! Shame on you! It was complete amateur hour! |

You saying you were going to buy Destiny, Far Cry 4 and GTAV on PS4 but now you won't because you found the presentation they did at a trade show lacklustre? Cool. Respect for principles.

It's all subjective. While Sony didn't have a terribly strong conference, they didn't have to. They're still smashing Xbone in sells. As long as they didn't screw it up, it doesn't hurt them. Not sure what you expected. Most games we knew before hand were going to be 2015. Nintendo helped their case the most, but they're not a direct competitor to Xbone and PS4. Nintendo is very niche and appeals to a lot of fans who have bought their products in the past. Relax. The sky is not falling for Sony. They have tons of exclusives due out in 2015, just like the majority of other consoles. They offered a $99 streaming device that allows you to play your device in other rooms. They had some good ideas and things that will help them. I think you're also focusing too much on resolution and 1080P. E3 is not the only show out there and games like Doom are going to get coverage at events like Gamescom. Relax, dude. E3 was pretty weak overall but there are more shows.

You guys are misunderstanding me. I'm not criticizing Sony's press conference itself or what they showed at E3. I'm criticizing Sony's complete mishandling of providing us PS4 owners proper coverage of what they showed through the PS4's E3 app and just overall lack of E3 presence through the PSN. It's like they treated covering E3 like a complete afterthought, whereas MS used the X1 user interface as an opportunity to make those of us who couldn't be at E 3 feel like we were there. It was just such a surprising indication of how far ahead MS is of Sony in the multimedia department. I know Sony continues to push the PS4 as a games machine first but at some point they need to start addressing multimedia functionality more seriously because if they don't, Live is going to once again pull ahead of PSN in terms of perceived value. MS has already removed services like Netflix out from behind the Live paywall. They are now providing free games through Games With Gold. So the 2 biggest advantages that PS Plus had over Live are now gone! Plus the X1's UI is so much more "alive" than PS4's with constant added content to check out and multimedia options are much more robust and will continue to be so if Sony doesn't get their butts in gear. The thing is, though, the thing that eventually made me dread turning on my 360 was the 'alive' interface. It's annoying to have things continually pushed at you. I am, perhaps, a minority, but I'll be happy if the PS4 stays the way it is - clean and easy to navigate without a million 'multimedia' apps vying for attention. You could even take Netflix away, I'd be happy; I paid something like £50 for a tiny little WD box that does all that streaming media nonsense way better than even the PS3 did, and uses a fraction of the electricity the PS3 did. You're basically asking for more advertising, please.

Also, WHAT multimedia functions? So far PSN and XBL both do practically the same exact apps. The ones that aren't there yet, soon will be. |

As far as what multimedia functions, well for starters... ESPN YouTube NFL network (Their 2014 NFL draft coverage was superb!) FX Now Fox On Demand Bonaroo music festival coverage (which has been terrific) World Cup Soccer coverage (which has also been terrific) Plus they've announced a ton more coming like HBOGO, Showtime On Demand, etc. Yet nothing mentioned from the Sony camp. Oh except for You Tube. That's about it. Also x1 updates are done monthly like clockwork and they actually let their users know in advance what specifically is being updated! Sony on the other hand updates the Ps4 at complete random times and they never let us know what they're updating until right before it goes live. Last edited by Steelmaker; 06-14-2014 at 04:52 PM. |

I agree with you Steelmaker.
I was disappointed in the functionality of the E3 app, overall. Plus, all of the game videos should've been shown in 1080p fullscreen. It felt like Sony was most interested in the stupid reward system for watching everything that they did a half-azz job presenting. |

Sometimes if you go to the "Games Page" in the PS Store there may be a video option to watch full screen. I was able to view some full screen that way.. Disney Infinity 2.0 gave me problems & I could only watch the mini-screen trailer. |

Do what I did. Go to gamersyde.com through your X1 web browser and watch it there! It streams it in full 1080p/60fps and looks incredible! I tried doing it through the PS4's web browser but oh guess what? It doesn't support Flash Player! ![]() I'm telling you I love my PS4 to play games on But now that I own both it and the Xbox One, it makes me realize just how ****ing terrible PlayStation's multimedia capabilities really are! The X1 absolutely eats it's lunch! Last edited by Steelmaker; 06-14-2014 at 04:38 PM. |

Well, having been in the theater for the E3 experience, can't say I had the same experience, as it was properly amazing overall...
You should have tried twitch tv though. Even for MS it's what was working the best by far. Their stream on the Xbox webpage wasn't working at all for me. |

I was looking at new TVs today and you cant even buy a new one that doesn't have web access and browsers all built in. The less of this sort of stuff the PS4 has, the better as far as I'm concerned, it just bogs down the interface. Slagging it off because it doesn't do what nobody ever said it would do is odd to me. Don't forget, MS is built on multimedia. If you're expecting Sony to catch up with them anytime soon, you're in for a disappointing 12 months. Last edited by KRW1; 06-14-2014 at 05:58 PM. |
