Default Ireland & Beyond - Best Place to Purchase BR movies

Two strands to my post (one local, the other global)

i) If you live in Dublin, Ireland, where do you buy/rent your BR movies from? Do they provide a good selection/price range?

In terms of shops, the best one I've found is Virgin in Dundrum but the price is very high (25-60 euro for single movie purchases). I'm trialing Moviestar (equil. to NetFlix) but of the movie list I chose, it was heavily weigthed to Blu movies, but yet the first one in the post due tomorrow is a DVD! Not inspiring me thus far.

ii) If you buy online which site do find is consistently the best for buying blu-ray movies pricewise- I've reviewed play.com, blahdvd.com, amazon.co.uk and cdwow.hk (who don't appear to sell BR!). Some of the BOGO I've seen recently only are appearing on amazon.com

Any experiences appreciated

to be honest, don't buy from retailer. buy online. they are cheaper. amazon.co.uk is a good one. play.com is another one. if you fancies import BD, then go to playusa.com

Either of the HMV's in Dublin have the best selection of Blu-rays out of all the shops. To be honest though I usually buy from movietyme.com. Prices are about €10-15 cheeper, but FREE delivery takes about a week. Apart from that have used sendit.com aswell.

I rarely buy retail but i have found Xtravision to be about the cheapest in Ireland. Virgin have mad pricing at the moment.

I buy from sendit.com (based in the channel islands + free shipping), amazon.com for region free titles (try and keep the total below $100), amazon.co.uk.

I have never dealth with play.com but hear they are pretty good.

Stay well away from any HMV or Virgin, if you're looking to pick up blu-rays in a retail shop try GameStop - they have branches all over Dublin. Their titles start at €17.99 (XXX, Into The Blue) onwards. New titles can start at €21.99 (Bram Stokers Dracula) - €37.99(POTC At worlds End) but they're usually €10 - €20 cheaper than the likes of HMV.

Online, Sendit.com are cheapest for Region B blu-rays (POTC At Worlds End €25, Harry Potter €24, Ghost Rider €15) and Movietyme.com are cheapest for Region A blu-rays + they post a list of what titles region-free. Delivery is free but can be slow from both of these but it's worth the wait to make the savings.

Play.com are a few euro dearer but I find delivery from these is slightly quicker (Harry Potter €27.99).

Ìm in Limerick and buy most of my blurays from sendit.com. Alot cheaper then retail and great service - usually takes 5 days for delivery. The rest ive baught from either Xtravision and Gamestop. My local Xtravision recently got rid of its titles for sale (they might have 1 or 2) but have a good selection for rent. Gamestop have a good collection but are expensive. I recently signed up for moviestar.ie and they have a good collection too for rent - Planet Earth etc.

I'm a Dubliner as well. I get most of my BR's from amazon.com in the US, the exchange rate makes them a killer deal and if you order only 1-2 at a a time you avoid import duty and VAT(especially if you get them as a gift for someone). Locally, gamestop seems to have a decent selection at prices better then HMV or Virgin, and sometimes you can find a deal there. If all else fails I use play.com for reigon coded titles that I cant find at amazon...

I'm in Dublin, and I would get mine from

movietyme.com
amazon.com
sendit.com

And I think I have purchased one from Virgin in Dundrum. I would recommend play.com as well, have always had good service for DVD's and books.

I went into GameStop in Henry Street on Saturday and I thought they were very expensive in there..

Amazon.com every time (I have a US PS3)

It's the exchange rate that's making all the difference (this morning €1=$1.48)
I also have the 10% off Amazon real, so I pick up new titles generally for about €12, these can be up to €55 in the likes of HMV.

I got some games when they had their 50% off one a while back, although just after getting them I found the same games at Harvey Norman for the discounted price

How long are they running that special for? A US one would be good, unless you have an warranty issues

Not sure how long it runs for. I think for the whole of November. I'll check at the local Tesco today.

Thats a concern with importing the PS3. The warrenty would be void?

I could be wrong, but it is unusual for companies to support the warranty on consoles etc when you have imported them yourself.

It's just regular Amazon.com
Typically priced $30 titles are reduced to $20 (or marginally under) on pre-order.
I have the 10% discount because they had an offer about a year ago where if you bought 3 HD titles in one order they gave you 10% off all HD items for a year (which means my year must be almost up )

That brings a $30 down to $18 or less, which at current exchange rates is just over €12.

Checked it out briefly, but bought from Game (with a BR/Game thrown in). I think the tesco deal is tied to a clubcard. If you buy, it's credited with the savings amount, which you can save through purchases down over a period of time. I'm not 100% sure, like I said I only looked into it briefly.

Thanks to all for the tips re: where to go locally/online. Much appreciated.
