Default Sony Pearl is here! Oh Gawd yes

http://www.hdbeat.com/2006/08/30/son...ed-and-priced/

Folks I'm seriously thinking that this may be my first projector. $6000 for 1080p goodness. Teatro Murchison is on the path to fruition. Now I just need a bigger living space. :d

What do you guys think about the benefits of HD material and front projection system?

SONY is introducing a 1080p Front Projector at a 5,999.99 price point, and if it looks anything like the VPL-VW100 ($10,000.00 unit) I have in my demo Theater Room on a 120" screen, it will be a great product. I'll see it at CEDIA, September 13-17 in Denver, CO . I have experienced Sony's Blu-Ray, BDP-S1 through the $ 10K Projector and it was 'Nirvana', stunning!!! If this is the path you want to go down, great!!! but remember "you must" be able to control light, just like theaters do. If you can't - forget front projection and look to a 70" or bigger LCD, LcOS, DLP rear projector that can hold up under the light in a room. Hope this was helpful . . . .

Street price will be less. Probably $5k. Hope this is shown at CEDIA in a few weeks.

Jim that was very helpful.

Eventually I'd like to do a Constant Height setup. As for light control my gf and soon to be my wife is a master at that. She's one of those who cannot sleep in room with much ambient light. She had custom Hunter Douglas blinds made and damn if they don't work very well. I hope you guys can report back from Cedia and tell us the cool things you see. I think the Sony and Panny BD players will be top notch but they're going to be out of my price range. I'll start with a HD DVD and hopefully have a BD player by early 2008 when LotR is supposed to hit in HD glory.
